Journeyman quarterback Brandon Weeden was recently signed by the Tennessee Titans while Colin Kaepernick continues to sit as a free agent. Football fans are livid that Weeden landed a gig before Kap, calling many to say the issue is far bigger than football.

Deadspin notes:

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly found a new quarterback to replace an injured Marcus Mariota, and it’s former 28-year-old rookie Brandon Weeden, a.k.a. the most hilarious Cleveland Browns draft pick ever, a.k.a. the guy last seen as a third-stringer behind Tom Savage and Brock Osweiler.

Mariota, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Texans, is questionable for Sunday afternoon’s game at Miami.

To clarify Deadspin’s jab up top, Weeden, now 33, was a first-round pick by the Browns at what some would consider an advanced age for the position. Since his entry into the league in 2012, Weeden has played for the Browns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Houston Texans. To his credit, he was a solid college quarterback for Oklahoma State, but on paper, he has never been close to Kaepernick’s level.

If anyone would like to pretend that Kap being frozen out of the league is about football skills are just lying to themselves at this point. Kaepernick, 29 years old and with a Super Bowl appearance under his belt, deserves at least a shot to be seen by a team. Weeden, who just might be a nice guy, is nowhere near the quarterback that Kap is on his best day.
