It’s been a hot minute since New Orleans ran the rap game with a bevy of rap soldiers and Hot Boyz. Dee-1 is on a mission to bring the light back to The Big Easy on his own terms with his major label debut Slingshot David (The Album).

On the project, the former school teacher recounts how the struggles he’s lived through molded him into the man he is today.

“My whole life has really felt like a fight,” Dee-1 explains. “I always felt like the underdog in terms of the city I’m from, the part of town that I was from, and especially later in life getting into the rap game. I was a college graduate teaching middle school, attempting to become a rapper and actually make a name for myself.”
