A gunman that shot and wounded a doctor at Johns Hopkins hospital is now dead after police say he killed his mother before fatally shooting himself.
50-year-old Warren Davis killed his mother, Jean Davis, after reportedly hearing about her condition at the hospital and becoming emotional.
Baltimore police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III says the doctor, who has yet to be identified, had been telling Davis about his mother’s condition when the man “became emotionally distraught and reacted … and was overwhelmed by the news of his mother’s condition.”
Before police arrived on the scene, Davis shot the doctor in the abdomen with a semiautomatic handgun before holing himself in his mother’s exam room where he then killed her and himself.
When officers arrived, they found Davis dead on the floor and his mother dead in her hospital bed.
The doctor is expected to recover from his injury.
Police have not released the mother’s previous condition but confirm that the gunman was on the eighth floor of the hospital building where doctors provide orthopedic, spine, trauma and thoracic services.
