Although he’s set to portray a preacher in a new film, Ja Rule will have to take a break from his acting to spend two years in jail for illegal weapons possession.

As previously reported, Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, was ruled against by a federal judge after he asked for a dismissal of on his gun possession case.

The rapper asked for a dismissal claiming that in 2007 police had no right to search his Maybach where they found a loaded .40 caliber pistol and a small amount of marijuana which he confessed to having himself.

While the judge did allow a dismissal on the substance charge, Rule appeared in court Monday where he accepted a plea deal and a mandatory two year prison sentence.

Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told the rapper this morning,

“Because of your guilty plea here today, you’ll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter.”

He will report to prison in February.
