Allen Iverson didn’t let nagging injuries, declining minutes or being shunned by every NBA team stop him from playing basketball so why should surgery to remove a painful lesion in his leg end his career now?

The former NBA all-star and fan favorite is set for surgery for the injury and rehab will take four to six weeks.

Iverson’s manager, Gary Moore told the Associated Press that he will return to Turkey to rejoin the team for the playoffs afterward.

The 35 year-old veteran has been in tremendous pain but vows to keep playing the sport he loves.

“People need to know that Allen is and always has been a fighter,” Moore said. “He’s got a battle ahead of him.”

Iverson spent most of his time in the league leading the Philadelphia Sixers in scoring for 10 years.

He was traded to Denver, then Detroit, ended up fighting for time in Memphis and landed back in Philly averaging 13.9 points last year before taking a leave of absence for family reasons.

When no NBA team requested his services, Allen signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the Turkish club, the Besiktas.
