Hometown hero and D.C. rap lyricist, Wale, announced to his 70,000 plus fans on Twitter his plans to take on a prestigious new endeavor. The rapper who’s been on the underground rap scene for several years will be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 13. The DMV’s finest will not act alone however; he’ll be joined by legendary D.C. Go-Go Band, UCB. The UnCut Band and Wale will be the “house band” for the awards show, performing numbers between commercial breaks and award presentations.

He tweeted saying:

“My big news is kinda already out there but my major news is, me and UCB will be house MC/Band for the VMAs this year. Thank y’all for stayin on this journey wit us…slow and steady.”

Wale also made sure to address his supporters and his haters, promising to leak a song Thursday.

“I love my supporters so much…fu*k the haters…and imma leak a song today…take that big bad record label…if i get in trouble blamn y’all.”

Unfortunately for fans the leak never happened and they’ll have to wait until the release of his forthcoming album, Attention Deficit. While it was originally slated for a September 22 release, the album will now hit stores in October. In the meantime Wale will receive more shine in front of the camera as an artist featured on the BET special, “Rising Icons.”

He’ll join the ranks of Keri Hilson, Ryan Leslie, The Dream and Chrisette Michele who will also be featured on their own episodes. His “Rising Icons” episode will highlight his past accomplishes and hopes for his future in the rap game. The episode will air August 31 at midnight.
