A decade has passed since the untimely demise of Harlem rapper Big L and the time has come to shed light on the life of a man whose life was cut short. A new documentary titled Street Struck: The Big L Story is in the works and will be coming to fans soon.
Produced by Dangerzone Films, the documentary will chronicle the life of the rapper with his rise in the music scene. It will show his early involvement as part of the group Children of the Corn, which was comprised of Mase, McGruff, Bloodshed and Cam’Ron and then as a member of the D.I.T.C. collective.
The story of Lamont Coleman will not just be about the rap game as it will feature rare stories and photographs of the fallen rapper which will be told through family, friends and those that associated themselves with him. The documentary will also give exclusive footage of Big L alongside the late Big Pun as they performed together on stage.
Those set to provide their own incite include DJ Premier, McGruff, Cipha Sounds, Myshonne and many others.
The mural for the late rapper was recently touched up and refreshed in Harlem, NY.
His history as a rapper started back in 1993 when he signed with Columbia Records. On the underground scene, he ignited rap with the release of the cut “Devil’s Son” which was quickly banned from the radio for its lyrics which solidified him as a rapper that aimed for the fans and not the radio.
Big L released his debut album, Lifestylz ov da Poor & Dangerous back in March of 1995. The album was able to put on big names now such as Jay-Z and Cam’Ron. In 1999, the rapper was shot and killed while he was in the process of creating his second effort, The Big Picture, which would go on to be released later in August 2000 after his tragic demise. As with the likes of DJ Jam Master Jay, Biggie Smalls and Tupack Shakur, his murder case has yet to be solved.
