Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson: Lockout Is ‘Slavery’
“It’s modern-day slavery, you know?” is what Adrian Peterson, star running back of the Minnesota Vikings said about the current situation between the NFL owners and the players association.
He went on and said,
“People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too.”
Adrian told Yahoo! Sports after the NFL lockout was announced on Friday that he felt it was unfair that the league would refuse to open their financial books.
“Obviously, there’s a lot to hide — these guys are professionals, and they’re maximizing what they do. But they know that if all this information comes out, the information the players want, it’ll be right out there for everyone to see.”
Of course Peterson’s anger and frustration is warranted but some view the comparison to slavery a bit extensive.
Green Bay’s Ryan Grant tweeted,
“Their is unfortunately actually still slavery existing in our world.. Literal modern day slavery. That was a very misinformed statement.”
Is a player that receives millions of dollar for playing a sport justified for feeling like a slave?
