Lakers, NBA To Work With GLAAD In Light Of Kobe Gay Slur

Lakers, NBA To Seek Council of GLAAD

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation as well as reps from the Lakers and National Basketball Association have agreed to have a sit down and discuss how the League should handle future incidents of homophobia.

Lakers’ spokesman acknowledged the potential meeting to TMZ and specified that Kobe’s outburst was “not representative of what the Lakers stand for” adding that the organization anticipates learning “ways to help educate ourselves and our fans, and to help keep language like this out of our game.”

As recently reported, Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant came under fire from many human rights groups after he directed the gay slur, “Fawking f*ggot” towards an official during a game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Kobe was later fined $100,000 by the NBA. He apologized earlier this week, saying, “The words expressed do not reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were notmeant to offend anyone.”

GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios says the organization strives to push for “zero tolerance policies for anti-gay slurs.”
