NFL Lockout Back On

The back and forth labor disputes between the NFL and its players took major steps back on Friday.

Just days after U.S. district judge Susan Richard Nelson ruled to end the NFL lockout in favor of the players, a court appeal by NFL owners was granted, putting a hold on Nelson’s ruling and reinstating the lockout while courts decide whether to overturn judge Nelson’s ruling completely.

This appeal process filed by the owners is set to begin this coming week, and could take six to eight weeks.

In the meantime, in a statement released to The Associated Press, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, teams “have been told that the prior lockout rules are reinstated effective immediately.”

NFL owners and players are essentially fighting over how to divide $9.3 billions of annual revenue. All football related actives, except for the 2011 NFL Draft, have been shutdown until owners and players come to terms on a new deal.

Ironically, the reinstatement of the lockout was announced during Day Two of the 2011 NFL Draft, hours after the court ruling.

The future of the National Football League and its upcoming season remains in limbo.
