Eminem Lawsuit May Result in Higher Royalties for Older Artists

‎

F.B.T. Productions, the company that originally signed Eminem filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group that may help artists get more money from digital sales.

Em's original contract stated that individual songs sold online would count as a license rather than a sale.

A license would pay the artist 50 percent of the song while a sale would only relinquish 12 percent, which is what the Detroit rapper was being paid.

The Supreme Court ruled against the appeal filed by UMG since they lost the case last year and now what is estimated to be around a $20 million value in unpaid royalties shall increase to somewhere around $50 million within the next decade.

So what does this mean? It affects the artists that had contracts way before digital sales existed.

The language in that paperwork may only be granting some singers, rappers and musicians a sale royalty rate instead of a licensing one that would increase their income.

There are heavily downloaded songs that labels are benefiting from in today's declining record industry.

UMG most likely set off a warning for majors to take action before artists catch wind. Stay tuned.

Eminem Song Lyrics

Hello... Allow me to introduce myself... My name is, Shady.
It's so nice to meet you...It's been a long time... Sorry I've been away so long...
My name is, Shady... I never meant to leave you

[Verse 1]
You see that chick in the gym, checkin' me out
Any second I'm bout to stick her neck in my mouth
I lose a pill, and I'm wrecklessly reckin' the house
That was supposed to be breakfast, where the heck is it now
There's the neckless I lost, clingin' to Stephanie's blouse
Man I should check to see if my mom left any out
Nope, guess I'll re-route
Maybe somewhere in the depths of the couch
Oh jackpot, yeah, open sesame mouth
Down the hatch, and the feelin' you can't match it
I rat-tat-tat on your door with the damn ratchet
Att-ack-tack-tacking a wh*re with the damn hatchet
A napsack pack with like 40sumn Xanax's
Shorty come back, I'm tryna score me some lap dances
Cause I'm bout to relapse, so baby pour me some Jack Daniels
Forumla 44D and 40's with bad capsules
The bad apple spoils the bunch, I'm back atcha

[Chorus]
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello
And are you menstruating baby, my lil' friends waitin' to say Hello
The way your tit*ies are wiggling and your booties shakin' like jello
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello

[Verse 2]
Yeah
My equilibrium's off, must be the lithium
I don't need to buy any drugs, man people gimmie um
It just becomes everyday, extra curriculum
No reason inparticular, it was strictly fun
a 5th of trone and 2 bottles of 151
51 people asleep in my damn living room
Excuse me hun, but what is your name, Vivienne?
I woke up next to ya naked and err, did we um
Of course we did, but didn't I strap a jimmy hun?
I'm looking for the torn rapper but there don't seem to be one
No offense baby girl, I don't mean any harm
But disease is something I'm tryna keep my penis free from
I find the package and I'm cool, I immediately run
Like Speedy Gonzales, Alistar see if I see anyone
Who might have a couple of 3's I'm fiendin' for some
My head is pounding to the beat of the drum

[Chorus]
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello
And do ya happen to have anything on ya to make my mood mellow?
Some are opal and some are pink, some are blue and some are just yellow
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello

[Verse 3]
Oh, those were the days, they certainly were
It's hurtin' me to know I'll be closin' that curtain for good
Word, word, word, word, word, word, word
I second that and a third, rushed to emergency surgery
To try to flush me because of the drugs that he purchased
He's no longer getting them free, 100 bucks for these percodans
Plus it's getting to be where he lustfully searched the den
Pain is hitting his knee and his muscles be hurting him
Tirelessly on the phone trying to russle up, muscle relaxants
For his back, and a couple of blacksons, now he's doubling backwards
And he's stumbling back, slipped and fell, hit his back bone
Heard something go crack, Now he's up in the bathroom
Like he's busting a nap, almost ended it that soon
Because of the fact, I'm just busting my own chops
While I'm busting a rap, resuscitated and rejuved, so Fawk it I'm back

[Chorus]
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello
And do ya happen to have anything on ya to make my mood mellow?
Some are opal and some are pink, some are blue and some are just yellow
Well I don't mean any harm all I wanted to do is just say Hello

[Outro]
And so I'm sayin' Hello... Allow me to introduce myself... My name is, Shady.
It's so nice to meet you...It's been a long time... Sorry I've been away so long...
My name is, Shady... I never meant to leave you

In an interview with HLN, Eminem describes why he never admitted to having a drug problem until now.

“In Hip-Hop you don't want to come across as weak and to me the addiction was a weakness,” Eminem said. “But in order for me to overcome it, I had to admit that I had a weakness.”

When asked about the severity of his drug addiction, the Detroit bred emcee admits that it was very severe.

“Not to make this moment intense, but I almost died,” Em continued. “I was a couple of hours away from death, I overdosed and almost died.”

In other Eminem news, Mathers recently sat down in an interview with SPIN magazine to discuss the leaked track “Talkin 2 Myself.”

The single, which was leaked last week, caused speculation after fans started venturing that the track was a diss record but unclear who were the intended targets.

Em, who is no stranger to beef, reveals that the track was initially a diss record for Kanye West and Lil' Wayne.

In the interview, Em stated that during his battle with the addiction he grew increasingly jealous of Lil' Wayne and his success.

Eminem also discussed the decision not to release the diss track stating:

"It would have been career suicide, they would have f**kin' murdered me."

As of last night, the internet was buzzing again about Dr. Dre's long awaited album Detox.

Since fans were advised by Jay Z that he was collaborating with Dr Dre on a track for the yet to be released album, the internet has been swarming with speculation. But it wasn't until the past few days that it seems that the Aftermath camp is playing along.

Peep The Photo Of Dre & Jigga In the Lab And More After the Jump!!! [More]

First we have Eminem tweeting about a big announcement after being M.I.A. for over a month, then as we previously reported, E! Correspondent Michael Yo confirmed that Dr. Dre was able to feature Jay-Z on a track for the “upcoming” project, and now we have a photo of Jay Z and Dre in the studio dated February 22nd.

Peep The Photo Of Dre & Jigga In the Lab After the Jump!!! [More]

I just hope Dre finally drops the album because we have been waiting for over eleven years. Iit has already pretty much reached urban legend status on the rumor mill but I think everyone out there is secretly hoping that it is really true.

As it was reported earlier, rapper Game made the announcement that everything had truly come full circle as he was now rolling with Dr. Dre once again and joined the team of Aftermath Records once again.

Apparently, there are rumors swirling that Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson isn't sitting too well with having his enemy on the same label as him and has stated that he will not stay on the label now that the West Coast rapper is back.

It's even been taken as far as saying that he won't even work with Dre while Game is signed back to the team.

Now, for the record, 50 hasn't seemed to be in a pleasant relationship with the producer for some time as the years have progressed. On Before I Self Destruct, the rapper pointed out the fact that Dre didn't do anything when Game betrayed G-Unit on “So Disrespectful”.

It can also be noted that Dre started working with Ashanti, which was once his enemy due to her allegiance with Ja Rule.

Adding more politics, Jackson had already made the statement that he was ready to leave Interscope due to the shady business that he's had to deal with during his music career. Yayo made that statement that himself and Banks were now free agents, so why not just round it out and lead the G-Unit movement on an independent route?

It seems that 50 may have been true in his sentiments off of his last album because it seems now like the walls are caving in from all sides with no way out. There is, however, nothing wrong with going back to step 1 and starting from scratch.

Why'd you get this ni$@a started??? In a recent interview with Street Disciplez Radio, West Coast MC Knoc-turn'al took a few shots at The Game as he prepares his comeback.

When asked about the state of West Coast Hip-Hop, he took that as a platform to throw Game under the bus. Knoc stated,

“I'm a prince and there's a lot of knights at the roundtable and they asked me to back up for Guerilla Black and Game and let them have a little room and they didn't do their jobs so I had to come out my bat cave to do it again. I'm not like these other suckers. Dr. Dre pay me. I don't have to rap again. I got my cheese. I don't have to rap. It's not a point of having to rap. The point is I respect our culture on the West enough to do it again.”

Now why he would put his career on hold for someone else when he was barely established himself is the question. Might be the label issues he had a few years back. Anyway he went on further with the bashing and added,

“I didn't hate. They didn't do what they was supposed to do… I'm gonna say something about the 50 Cent/ The Game beef. If somebody is making you a $100-million a year and then somebody else is coming in and trying to destroy that, is that not Satan. What I'm saying is he (The Game) came back around and now he's back with Dre because he stopped being a follower of the devil. (I guess the devil is 50 Cent). The devil is active always. It's no disrespect to Game but it's a reason why I don't do songs with certain people. Maturity is the key.”

Knoc-turn'al then stated that 50 Cent threw The Game a lifeline and saved his career from being dust on the shelves of Interscope. He concluded,

“Let me tell you about business instead of where you from. Game is from Compton. OK, we know that. Game was about to get dropped from Aftermath. Aftermath and Interscope was about to drop him and 50 Cent picked him up and put hooks on his stuff. The only reason he was about to get dropped from Aftermath was because he couldn't make no hooks for his own music. So 50 Cent picked him up, made some hooks for him and put him out and he sold 5 million records.”

Never one to take shots lying down, the Compton general fired back via Twitter and stated that the reason for the disses were because he turned down Knoc-turn'al's invitation to record some music together. The Tweets read:

“4 days ago, knocturnal was hittin me on here, sayin how much he a fan & can we work, now he on da radio talkin sideways cuz I said NO! ha ha

see u when I see u #b**cha*sni**a ! u had half a hit, u only sold 3 copies & now u a crackhead ! get some help ni**a or go OD somewhere f*g

R.I.P. Cock-turnal ! music career (born) 6-14-99 (died) TODAY !"

I never heard Knoc battle but The Game is built for this. It'll be a shame if his comeback was silenced before it even started but we'll see what happens…

Peep the video below:
