Lil Cease Pens Birthday Letter To Notorious B.I.G. [PHOTOS]

In commemoration of what would have been the Notorious B.I.G.'s 40 th birthday, his longtime friend Lil Cease penned a letter to the slain MC. In the heartfelt letter, released by XXL, Cease expresses his love for B.I.G. writing, “Thank you for giving me a career, positive path and showing me the real meaning of life at a young age.”

B.I.G, born Christopher Wallace, most recently became the subject of a VH1 Behind the Music, which discussed his life, legacy, and unsolved murder. Aside from marking what would have been a milestone age for the Brooklyn rapper, 2012 is also the 15-year anniversary of his death.

Exclusive: French Montana Talks Growing Up In Morocco [VIDEO]

Before he was a "coke boy," French Montana grew up in the North African country of Morocco. Born, Karim Kharbouch, Montana emigrated to the Bronx, with his family in 1996. In the years since, the rapper has been heavy on his grind flooding the streets with material, all of which garnered him a healthy amount of buzz, and a record deal with Bad Boy.

"It's just a hustle and getting adapted to the lifestyle," he told Hip-Hop Wired of the differences in African and American cultures. "I feel like the lifestyle is a little different but the hustle is still the same." Now that he's officially part of Diddy's team, Montana is prepping the release of his Excuse My French debut, and dropped the remix to his "Everything's A Go" single last week.

The summer will find the 27-year-old promoting his music via a spot on Drake's Club Paradise tour, a solo run overseas, and hitting the stage at Hot 97's Summer Jam.

G. Dep Doesn't Regret Murder Confession

As G-Dep sits in prison for the murder of a Harlem man nearly two decades ago, the former Bad Boy artist doesn't regret his decision to come clean about the incident. In an interview with the New York Post, Dep explained that if given the opportunity to change his mind, he would still have come forward with the admission. “No, never,” he said when asked if he had regrets. Sentenced to 15-years to life last week, the father of three noted that serving time may affect his opinion, in the future.“Maybe at the end of serving time or after looking back, someone might feel differently. But now I feel what I did was right.” On the night in question, Dep attempted to rob John Henkel, back in 1993. After confessing to the crime, the father of three recanted his story maintaining that he first had no idea that the victim died, then stated that the person he shot was a not Henkel. In the end Dep was found guilty, and must serve a minimum of 15 years behind bars.

If given the opportunity to advise his younger self, Dep said that he'd tell himself not to “stop playing with guns.”

Exclusive: French Montana Addresses "Bad Boy Curse," Talks Working With Diddy, Rick Ross [VIDEO]

French Montana has started a movement. The Morocco-born rapper has been on the grind for a minute but this year will bring the release of his long-awaited debut Excuse My French, due out in July. Over the past few months Montana has jumped on tracks with just about everyone in the rap game, landed a spot on Drake's Club Paradise tour, and continues to flood the streets with new music of his own.

Earlier this year, French announced that he had chosen to sign with Bad Boy over Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music imprint, and when we caught up with him, he acknowledged the not-so-squeaky clean reputation of his new label home. Back in the ‘90s Puffy and his crew ruled the charts, but cut to present day and most (if not all) of his top-selling artists have either found themselves in legal hot water, or had a religious awakening of some sort.“The history do look kinda shady but I feel like you as a man should never rely [on] somebody else,” he tells Hip-Hop Wired exclusively, making mention of former Bad Boy rapper G.Dep's prison sentence. “You have full control.”

Montana also opens up about working with Rick Ross and Diddy on his album, likening them to “Michael Jordan” and “Phil Jackson,” and putting his comrade Max B on his new album. Check out the rest of our interview below.

G. Dep Receives 15 Years To Life For 1993 Murder Of John Henkel

Nearly two years after confessing to murder, rapper G-Dep has learned how long he will spend behind bars for the act. A judge sentenced the former Bad Boy artist to 15 years to life for his role in the 1993 shooting of a Harlem man. Dep was given the minimum sentence, which may or may not have been due to his confession. In December of 2010 the father of three walked into a New York police station and admitted to robbing and shooting a man, which investigators were able to link to the then unsolved murder of John Henkel.

While in prison Dep attempted to recant his story claiming that he did not shoot Henkel, but another victim. He also maintains that he was unaware that the victim had died after the shooting. "My hope is that Trevell never wavers from his decision,” said Dep's lawyer, Anthony Ricco. "Fifteen years is a long time. Fifteen years in the penitentiary for putting yourself there is an even longer time."

As he preps to spend a good chunk of his life behind bars, Dep has stated working on a book about his life. "It's one of those things where I'm not trying to explain or justify anything," he said during an interview from prison. "It's just I'm trying to just give people my last option. Obviously I can't record. I don't know if people are wondering what's going on or even care, but this is something from an artistic point of view that will kind of close out what I was doing, for now. It might kinda answer some people's questions."

Back in 1998 Dep was signed to Bad Boy under a five-album deal.

Sean "Diddy" Combs Speaks On G. Dep's Murder Conviction

As G-Dep sits in jail on murder charges, his former boss, Sean “Diddy” Combs, is still surprised by the whole thing.

Diddy stopped by Hot 97 to give his opinion on Dep's guilty verdict. “I was like, ‘Wow',” he told Funkmaster Flex. “None of that was in G. Dep's nature. When there were certain things that he was going through with the substance abuse situation, he'd be a different person, but on an everyday [basis], he was probably one of the nicest, most quietest, shyest, most humble cats that were out there. It was just so out of his character that it was mind-blowing.”

Dep, born Trevelle Coleman, admitted to shooting and killing John Henkel back in 1993. In a taped confession, the father of three said that he shot Coleman during a robbery attempt, but was unaware that the victim died. After confessing, Dep retracted his story claiming that he shot another victim. “After the main announcement, I had heard that he had retracted his confession,” Diddy continued. “I said, ‘Okay, maybe he was under the influence when he confessed.' Then out of nowhere, they said he was convicted and it's a shame because he's such a great talent and it all kind of stemmed from substance abuse.”

While in prison, Dep is said to be working on an autobiography. He faces 15 years to life, and will be sentenced on May 8.

Notorious B.I.G.—VH1 Behind The Music Sneak Peek [VIDEO]

Notorious B.I.G. is the subject of the latest episode of VH1's Behind the Music series. The cable network released an 11-minute sneak peak chronicling the Brookyln rapper's transition from street hustler, to becoming one of the game's most lauded figures.

Taking center stage on the special will be the rapper's unsolved murder more than 15 years ago, and the alleged involvement of former Death Row Records head, Suge Knight. Diddy, Lil Cease, Mister. Cee, and Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, are among those featured in the episode.

Behind the Music: Notorious B.I.G. airs Thursday May 3, at 9 p.m. EST.
