We all know that KRS-One is “The Teacher,” but what you may not know is that he is also known as “The Giver.” KRS, who was homeless at one point of his life, is giving back to the city and the people by having a mission feed 3,000 of the city's homeless on Thanksgiving Day in New York. The rapper will appear at the mission that he once stayed at himself from 8:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m.

KRS-One has put out the statement:

“I am participating in the Bowery Mission Thanksgiving Food Drive and Event because I myself was once homeless, walking these very streets, spending time with these wonderful people at the Bowery Mission.”

KRS would continue to say:

“I depended on them to survive. I am showing up for Thanksgiving this year to not only lend a hand, but hope that I may inspire others in the Hip-Hop community to consider their roles towards helping the homeless and join me by helping those in your community that need help during this holiday season.”

KRS-One will also help the organization offer doctor's appointments, drug recovery and job assistance programs. The Bowery Mission has served some of New York's homeless families since 1879 and is open 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Although KRS-One may be big now, it's good to see he hasn't forgotten where he came from, and is sending the right message not just through his words but through his actions.

Continuing his teachings on the culture of Hip-Hop, KRS and Buckshot also dropped the banging Survival Skills this past September. The album features the hit single “Robot” as well as collaborations with Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, K'Naan and Mary J. Blige.

It's always a treat for fan to see what happens when two legendary lyricists link up. “Black Republican” spawned from Nas and Jay-Z and Nas was even able to link up with AZ in his early career to create “Life's A Bi*ch.” This time around New York's elite class of lyricists brings KRS-One and Buckshot together.

Their collaborative album, Survival Skills is set to be released on September 15 on Duck Down records.

“Ever since 1993 we've been passing each other on tour or in the studio saying, one day we should tour together, or one day we should do a record together,” KRS stated. “Well finally myself and Buckshot have the chance to collaborate on a straight up and down MC'in project.”

The album has an extensive list of features to look forward to. They include such artists as Mary J. Blige, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Sean Price and Naledge of Kidz In The Hall. Production will be handled by the likes of Havoc from Mobb Deep, 9th Wonder, Black Milk and many others.

Their single, “Robot” takes a full swing at those that use the Auto-Tune technology. The record was released 6 weeks prior to Jay-Z's “Death of Autotune.” The track speaks to those that are overusing the voice-enhancer made famous by Roger Troutman, Afrikka Bambatta, Teddy Riley and T-Pain.

“I don't want people to get the averaged clichéd version and thinking that we're dissing people,'” Buckshot clarified.

“What we're calling out here is the biters, the people that feel like because this guy sold X amount of records doing this, that I'm going to turn around and do it as well,” KRS said.

Their past solo work up till now has showed that the two can weather the storm and have stood the test of time. Making his debut in 1987 with Criminal Minded, KRS-One was coined an icon rather early and he continued to whip up more Hip-Hop essentials with Edutainment and Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip-Hop.

Buckshot has worked extensively with producer 9th Wonder and has spawned progressive material with the albums Chemistry and The Formula. Breaking his music out to greener pastures, he has landed his music on EPSN, The History Channel and an episode of the series CSI: Las Vegas.

The two are currently touring as part of the Rock the Bells line-up.
