Jay-Z, LeBron James Talk Two Kings Charity, Doing 'Good All Over'

Rap Mogul, Jay-Z and future Basketball Hall of Fame forward, Lebron James don't want to just be seen as two stars holding up a Sprite can endorsing a product. They chose to get involved, and at this past NBA All-Star weekend, they teamed up with Sprite to unveil a newly renovated gymnasium at The Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles.

The two mega icons showed up to meet, greet and speak to the youngsters about the importance of believing they can achieve whatever they want.

Jay commented on the impact of Lebron being there in front of them and what it means.

"You see Lebron James on TV," Hov told MTV News and elaborated on how it can affect the kids. "Just that thing that's tangible, that they can touch him and shake his hand and know that this is a young man who comes from the same areas as they do, and look where he's made it to. So it makes it real."

Lebron also told reporters how important it was for the children to be able to see both superstars up close.

"Could you imagine if Michael Jordan showed up to your community, or whoever you loved and watched everyday on TV that you thought was superhuman, just showed up to a community [center]...that one moment right there could be the difference between you making a left or making a right," said James.

A mural by famous graffiti artist, Mr. Cartoon was also unveiled in the gym.

They also reeled in other celebs for their Two Kings charity fifth annual dinner, sponsored by Microsoft's Bing search engine. Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Chris Bosh, Kanye West, Leonardo DiCaprio and Drake were in attendance.

The Miami Heat star and the minority owner of The New Jersey Nets may not have partnered up in the sports world but they managed to get together for a greater cause.

While some rappers may buy a new car or take a vacation after their record sales, rapper Ohini Jonez and Producer Tokyo Cigar have decided to donate most of their funds to their local charities.

Proceeds of the album go to benefit Borroughs Mollette Elementary School in Brunswick, Georgia, as well as another charity in Producer Tokyo Cigar's home state of Maryland.

Ohini Jonez had this to say about the decision of the process:

“Hip Hop needs to get back in touch with the community, if not necessarily in message, definitely in action; too much of our energies as a culture are being directed towards frivolous things that don't have an impact on the future.”

Click the jump to find out more about the great Hip-Hop deed and information where to get the album

The album as a whole can be purchased for five dollars, or can be bought by individual tracks at seventy-five cents a piece. Although Ohini and Tokyo are not household names yet, with their unique sound and associations with Mikkey Halsted and Wu-Tang, they hope one day to share their vision with the world.

"It's all about Haiti. Whatever you can do for Haiti, that's what it's about. No matter how big or small, it's most definitely needed."

As many continue to donate funds to the county of Haiti after the earthquake, others are finding ways outside of their pockets to give back.

Holding a blood drive, rapper Rick Ross was able to bring people together for the greater cause and provide any donations, food blood and anything else that they were able to give.

Even with the late producer J Dilla gone, his family is continuing to keep the legacy of James Yancey alive.

With West Coast probate attorney Alex Bordern officially being named the administer of Jay Dee's estate, the family has decided to launch the J Dilla foundation which will provide more security and a means of prosperity for his mother, Maurenn “Ma Dukes” Yancey, along with his daughters and brother.

“We've got cutting-edge people all over the country waiting to work and be a part of it. Everybody's on one accord it seems like the universe is working with us,” said Maureen Yancey.

“The entire family knows how Alex's team works and how they've pulled together and stood up for us even before this time, and it's just been excellent. The communication is wonderful. It's like family…we're just one big family.”

His Estate will serve as an outlet for the Yancey family to be bestowed with future financial growth fro the late Dilla through his name, merchandise and his musical recordings. The overall purpose is to continue his musical journey and create an enterprise that will be controlled by his loved ones once the probate process is finally complete.

“The Foundation is to keep Dilla's dream alive to help youth—those who aspire to make good music—and develop their time, talent, and nurture their skill. We also want to be there financially for those who are talented but don't have the money or access to the networks they need to help them grow,” said Yancey.

Along with providing for the ones left behind, the J Dilla Foundation will also become a nonprofit charitable institution to aid in funding towards the further development of music within the inner city and supporting students financially through scholarships for those attending schooling with progressive music curricula.

“All these kids been getting killed, all this stuff going on, we have to make a change.”

Ever since the tragedy of Derrion Albert in Chicago, Hip-Hop has risen as a community to raise more awareness of the troubles going on within the youth, but it has been hard to say if things have actually been implemented or if it is all just hot air.

Rapper Twista, who is a Chicago native, felt the need to make a difference as he took the time to return back home and make a more direct difference and meeting up with those that were part of the altercation that led to the boy's death.

Accompanied by CBS Channel 2 News, the rapper reflected on what's going on today and what went on when he was growing up.

“I came up the same way you did: public aid, drug problems in the family, dealing with people selling drugs. It changed me in a way where I know what I don't want to go back to.”

Eugene Bailey was present during Twista's arrival and gave some incite to his relationship with Albert. He added that since then, he hasn't been able to sleep in disbelief that what happened is actually a reality.

“We lost a good friend,” stated Bailey. “He was like one of my brothers.”

Bailey was recently accused of the crime, but was later released and all charges were dropped. Since then, he has been trying to rebuild his life after having his name and image poorly represented, according to Bailey.

Outside of his conversation, Twista has used his voice in music to continue his word and reach out for change by releasing the mixtape Save Our Students which is a call for peace within the community.

“You have to figure out the cool way to talk to kids sometimes.”

It doesn't stop here, fortunately, as the rapper stated that himself, Kanye West and other rappers will be coming together to raise funds for programs so that the youth have alternatives to keep themselves away from the street and the potential trouble associated with it.

The violence is at an all time high in the Black community and it is time for someone to step up to the plate and do something. Believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear so all of these words are falling to deaf ears. Stand up and make a movement.

Since Plies flooded the airwaves with his sex-driven lyrics on tracks such as “Becky” and “Bust It Baby”, the rapper has come off as being more than rated R as he has dubbed himself the realist. Being the realist, he has been one not to bite his tongue and say things exactly how he feels.

As a replacement for Gucci Mane this weekend at FAMU, however, the rapper showed that he is aware of that fact of timing and that there is a time and place for everything.

It was reported that before performing “Bust It Baby,” the rapper saw a fan that looked to be too young to be hearing those particular lyrics. As a result, the rapper gave the girl $1,000 from his pocket and asked her to leave and have her parents take her some place more appropriate.

If that's not a curveball, then what else could it be?

The rapper has been one to show his charitable side in other instances as he gave his chain to a girl during a basketball game some time ago, but this action is much more than just making a girl's day.

Society has always been the one to point out the fact that Hip-Hop's lewd lyrics have caused a downfall in the youth of the country as they have been heavily influenced by what they hear and see through these rap artists.

Although he essentially paid for it, Plies showcased the fact that he acknowledges his responsibility as a rapper. He may not be able to stop everyone from buying his CD, but he will have some control to who he will allow to hear him while in his presence.

In related news, beef might be stirring between the Florida native and DJ Kay Slay. The Drama King recently expressed his issues with the rapper as he was a no show when asked to appear in the video for his upcoming album's first single, “Blockstars.”

Initially, the track featured Plies, Jim Jones, Busta Rhymes and Ray J, but communication came to a halt when talk came about shooting a music video, according to the DJ, which resulted in him being replaced with Yo Gotti. The lack of communication between the two also resulted in the album being pushed back to December 8.

Clearly frustrated, the Drama King let his words fly during “Drama Hour” on Hot 97 where he stated that Plies' judgment has been compromised due to his young age and his rising success.

“This is what happens when these ni**as come around early and you show them love. Plies has been on my show twice. Once ni**as get a few checks…I believe it's ni**as around him, because the kid can't possibly have did that s&*t blatantly after he came and said this, that and the third.”

Maybe the” realist ni**a in the room” isn't who he says he is.

Seventeen counties in Georgia were declared in a state of emergency after massive flooding swamped the area with dangerous flood waters in previous weeks. The floods took the lives of 10 people in the Peach State and caused $250 million worth of damage. Now some of the top Hip-Hop artists in the country are working together to restore GA back to its glory. The starting roster for the charitable effort includes Ludacris, Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, and the ‘King of The South', T.I.

TIP's Grand Hustle label teamed up with Ludacris's Ludacris Foundation to show concern for families victimized by the tragedy. The two entities donated $10,000 to Home Depot and Sam's Club for their relief effort to help 20,000 families affected by the floods.

Other artists involved in the effort will participate in a joint venture between Jermaine Dupri, Nelly and local Atlanta radio station, V-103 FM, for a celebrity bowling competition. Titled “Stand Up Atlanta: Jermaine Dupri and Nelly Charity Celebrity Bowling Tournament”, the event will take place Thursday, October 1 at Red Carpet Lanes in Duluth, Georgia. All proceeds from the event will benefit flood victims. Mike Bigga, Big Boi, Sammie, Bryan Michael Cox, Zaytoven and NBA player, Derric Anderson are all scheduled to participate.

Lupe Fiasco will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the need for clean water worldwide. He won't be alone, he'll have Jessica Beil with him, Isabel Lucas and singer and producer Kenna. The organized expedition called Summit on the Summit is set for next January.

The climb for awareness was organized by Kenna. In Ethiopia his father suffered from waterborne diseases as a child.

More celeb participants will be announced in the coming months. In the meantime you can donate to Summit on the Summit or check out their website. We all know water is a basic need. One can live longer without water than one can live without water. Not just any water but clean water and many living in industrialized countries may be as "astonished" as Jessica Beil was to learn over a billion persons worldwide don't have access to clean water.

According to summitonthesummit.com One dollar provides 100 liters of clean, safe drinking water for 50 days of healthy living.

You can donate directly to the cause at the Untied Nations Foundation website here.

Celebrity endorsements are helpful in bringing awareness to causes and charities but there is no substitute for knowing as much as you can about where your money goes. summitonthesummit.com provides plenty of info for you on themselves and the Untied Nations Foundation.

Props to Lupe for putting and the others for putting themselves out there for a cause they believe in.

Lupe's not the only one with a heart. Other charitable rappers include Ludacris, Saigon and 50 Cent among others.

Lupe Fiasco will be going on tour with Wale and Jay-Z.
