Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell Williams Working On Collaborative Album

Last night (January 9), a cryptic message posted on Lupe Fiasco's website simply read, “FOOD AND LIQUOR 2 COMING SOON....LUPE AND PHARRELL ALBUM COMING SOON...” – spawning a series of Facebook likes, Twitter retweets and a spate of comments on the blog entry itself. Online magazine Hypetrak reportedly confirmed the news, although no official statement from the pair has been released as of yet.

In 2007, Hip Hop fans rejoiced with the release of “Us Placers,” a collaborative track featuring the talents of Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, with Fiasco providing the sparse, moody production inspired by Radiohead front man Thom Yorke. Featured on Kanye West's mixtape Can't Tell Me Nothing, ahead of his third album Graduation, the critically lauded track never saw an official release.

"Us Placers" sparked the union of the three stars under the group name Child Rebel Soldier (CRS) although only two other recorded tracks, N.E.R.D.'s remix for “Everybody Nose” and a Kanye West/G.O.O.D. Fridays-commissioned drop “Don't Stop,” have surfaced. However, two-thirds of the creatively stalled CRS announcing an impending project has again jumpstarted widespread anticipation from fans and the media alike.

Pharrell, as part of production duo the Neptunes, has worked with Fiasco prior to the “Us Placers” track, producing “I Gotcha” on Lupe's 2006 debut album Food & Liquor. Lupe's upcoming fourth studio LP Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album is also set for a 2012 release, which looks to be packed with a lot of music from the Chicago rapper if this news holds true.

The only question that remains: where the heck is Kanye West in all of this?

Are you anticipating the new Lupe Fiasco/Pharell Williams project? Do you think Kanye West will join them?

“We're like, in the middle so everything from here on out is gonna be the grand closing.”

With the music world continuing to wait for the release of Lupe Fiasco's third official album, L.A.S.E.R.S., the rapper looks even farther forward to the finish line.

Marking this as the halfway mark in his career, the rapper still says that his frustrations with the music industry will inevitably have him bowing out once and for all.

Just to think, he only became mainstream in 2006 and he's tired of the politics after four years.

In regard to the release date of the upcoming project, Fiasco stated the album is completely finished and it is now in the hands of Atlantic Records to figure out when they would like to have it hit shelves.

According to the Chicago native, the project known as Child Rebel Soldiers, or CRS, with Kanye West and Pharrell still has the green light to go.

Outside of the music, Fiasco is in the process of creating his first book. Adding that he was always a writer, the music was just an extension of his ability to tell stories.

Check the rest of the interview below:

“He's a good guy. I respect him as an MC.”

In today's frenzy of Hip Hop artists, it's hard to pin point one that can stand out in the sea full of sharks.

An artist with such caliber as Lupe Fiasco must find it hard in the search for other rappers that can meet his lyrical ability, but clearly Fiasco sees something in the up and coming Jay Electronica that most others have already known for quite some time.

Both known as remarkable wordsmiths and lyricists, the fans of Hip Hop were initially ready for the two to be placed on opposite sides and engage in a lyrical war to see who would topple the other.

With L.A.S.E.R.S. turned in awaiting the politics from the record label, Lupe has stated that he has yet another goal to accomplish, in the form of linking with Electronica for an album.

Speaking on Tony Touch's Toca Tuesdays show on Shade45, the Chicago native gave some insight to his rap dreams which he hopes to bring to life.

“That's bigger than the album. I wanna do a whole album with Jay. I wanna do a whole record Jay Electron.”

He also stated that there is still life in the project that is Child Rebel Soldiers between himself, Kanye West and Pharrell, but the whole Jay collaboration might be sticking for people a little more in this particular climate in music. No offense, just saying.

Check below to hear Lupe Fiasco speak more on what to expects from L.A.S.E.R.S.
