"I decide I'm not handing in Great Escape...

I told them they needed to start paying these producers with that other [$60,000] before we start losing records (this is back when we were trying to “clear” everything up)."

It is becoming more evident that whether an artist is dealing with a mainstream or an independent label, the same politics exists when dealing with any record label in general.

[Peep after the jump as Budden shares more issues on his label woes and recording idustry rule # 2,080.] [More]

As reported earlier, a representative for Amalgam Digital felt it necessary to clarify the ongoing issues between the company and Joe Budden, making allegations that the rapper owed two albums and was using shady tactics in dealing with business.

For months, people have been waiting for Slaughterhouse to make the jump to Shady Records and join the team of Eminem, but Budden and Joell Ortiz have voiced that E1 Entertainment and Amalgam could be the culprits holding up that process.

In an attempt to clear up the allegations thrown his way, the New Jersey native responded to the claims and even stated that his future projects will be on hold until things are sorted out.

"I decide I'm not handing in Great Escape (to E1 who's expecting it because that's what they paid Amalgam for basically) until Amalgam has absolutely nothing to do with Budden. Keep in mind, when I did try to hand Great Escape to Amalgam, I told them they needed to start paying these producers with that other [$60,000] before we start losing records (this is back when we were trying to “clear” everything up). They said, "Hell no," [and said that] I better pay them from the 80k I got, the 60 ain't movin 'til the album's out. I also offered to pay them, in full, [$140,000] to remove themselves from any situation of mine, didn't happen. E1 offered them 200k to do the same. I was told, “Dude is crazy. He's coming back with astronomical numbers..."

The rep has also stated that what happened with the release of Escape Route was Budden's fault and the rapper also addressed what issue arose when it dropped.

"He puts out Escape Route on the same date as Slaughterhouse (seems small, but dude had already been threatening Royce and Joell's managers with dropping a Budden project in close proximity to anything they do, which no one wanted, naturally). E1 wants to re sign Slaughterhouse but here comes Shady [Records]. Next then goes and cuts some deal with Alan [Grunblatt] (E1). What that deal included, no one really knows for sure, but they got a shitload of money under the promise they'd be able to deliver Budden product (remember, E1 wants Budden desperately). So now a hard copy of Escape Route comes out to everyone's surprise and is doing great, generating A LOT of money that I haven't seen a dime of, along with Padded Room, Halfway House and Mood Muzik royalties.”

That just goes to show the power of the label when they have control of distribution.

Man, all this c*ck-blocking is doing nothing but hurting the music for the fans. All the people want is good music and all these politics, although fans might not understand or care, are doing nothing more than leaving the consumers disappointed.

JoellOrtiz E1 is f**king cockblocking us from doing something monumental for our fans and our careers. I don't give a f**k who gets mad. It's the truth.

As reported earlier, ¼ of Slaughterhoouse, Joell Ortiz, has become very vocal as it pertains to his situation with his record label, E1 Entertainment.

Making claims that the label wanted Ortiz to build his buzz through creating a beef, now the Brooklyn Bomber is stating that the label is holding him back from getting his business, along with that of Slaughterhouse, underway.

As a result, it seems like his sophomore album Free Agent, might not be handled by the label formerly known as Koch if things continue heading in the downward spiral.

JoellOrtiz im sick of the behind the scenes politics. Its time to expose certain bloodsuckers to some light. Enough is enough.

Promising to wage the war until something is handled and taken care of accordingly, Ortiz leaves the label with some lasting words.

JoellOrtiz this week, I go in. Mark my words. E1 holding good brothers up cause of my agreement. Its not fair to Slaughterhouse

Hopefully this doesn't signal another pushback for Free Agent because whatever E1 might be saying, Ortiz' single “Kawl Me” is definitely buzzing and the Internet is all on the lookout for the upcoming release.

Already being forced to deal with push backs, the album initially slated for release as early as 2006, Memphis Bleek's project The Process was again pushed back from a 2009 release to 2010.

Not allowing the politics to set him back mentally, Bleek continues his grind until the drop with the release of the track “Still Ill”

“Still Ill”

HipHopWired was able to catch up with Bleek and speak with the rapper on the upcoming release and what to expect as well as dispelling certain misconceptions.

“I'm gonna make it happen, trust me with this album I'm gonna come strong and let people know, everything that you've been hearing over the years, it's all been Bleek. I didn't have a deal when Coming of Age and “It's Alright” came out, none of that. It's just crazy the way people think. Rumors get started now, somebody think of it in their house and they just put in on the blog and it goes everywhere and everybody believes it.”

He also added creating his own brand and the details behind the delay on the album.

“Oh man, just basically showing people the growth and the process of building my own establishment right now Get low Records. That's what's been the long delay, I felt like I didn't want to put out another release under Def Jam if they going to look at me selling 400,000 copies as a loss. I'd rather lose on my own label like that, you know what I mean. So it was the process of getting out the deal, the process of getting a distribution deal and one that's suitable for me, one that generates the right amount of attention as well as the assets, I didn't want to just jump on any deal if that's the case I'd be doing what every other rapper [is doing].”

Scheduled for a release on March 23, Bleek will step to the plate to show that he's capable of standing on his own without Roc A Fella behind him.

As a child begins to grow and mature into an adult, it is sometimes necessary for him/her to expand his/her own horizons and part ways with his/her home and attack the world on their own.

For Harlem rapper Jim Jones, the Capo, outside of his history as part of the Diplomats, was able to establish himself initially through Koch Records. At the time, Koch was dubbed as being “the graveyard” for some artists and signs that a rapper was quickly fading into obscurity in the Hip Hop scene.

Jones actually left the independent label to join forces with Columbia Records where he released Pray IV Reign.

Since then, Koch has shed its skin and now stands as E1 Music and it might be time for Jones to return home as the label has catapulted itself from being a small fraction to being a factor.

The deal made between the two entities as he returns back to his initial nesting grounds is for one mixtape and one album.

After a joint album with DJ Webstar, the rapper's next solo studio album is expected to drop in 2010 although no further details have been released.

Rumors were circulating last summer that the rapper was in the process of being dropped from Columbia and a “source” from A&R had made the rumors concrete facts by stating that he was in fact dropped. According to Jones, however, the reports had no validity and even added that he's not really an artist there but just in a partnership with the label pursuing a venture.

While Koch was on the climb to the top, the rapper was named Vice President of Urban A&R last January. As the move to independent releases was slowly brewing, Jones was having his contributions to music acknowledged.

His work with E1 found the rapper introducing the world to Mr. Ice Cream Paint Job, Dorrough, along with working with the ranks of D-Block and the team of DJ Khaled.

Jones spoke on his relationship with Koch through Artist Direct, stating that the label allows him to do his thing which only makes him create music with better quality due to him not having excessive constraints in the creative process.

“They recognize all the money I've made them and all of the moves I've made throughout the years over the course of our relationship. They understand the way I have to work. Freedom is definitely a must for me to get the best quality of product that's usually a hit.”

The move back can only mean great things for both Jones and E1. As he was able to help in establishing Koch as being formidable and in turn, them becoming a new utopia for artists that were tired of the majors, the two can only further progress as they have departed to learn the way on their own, but come back once again.

Earlier reports stated that Rell was trying to make Jones pay and he indeed meant that as rumors surfaced that he was in the process of suing Jones. It also showed that the rapper intended to hit up his old stomping grounds Koch, now E1 Entertainment, Babygrande Records and Tycoon Entertainment.

All of the issues revolved around supposed unpaid royalties.

These reports, since then, have been extinguished by Rugah himself and been dispelled as just being here say and nothing more as he has no intentions of putting out a lawsuit against his former group member.

Regarding it as being a false report, the rapper stated that he is in the process of dealing with Koch legally, but has not put out any type of court order on Jones.

The faction/movement known as Dipset has taken quite a turn for the worse within the recent years. With Cam'Ron's departure, the blame seemed to be placed in the hands of Jim Jones, the Capo, and Juelz Santana as they were stepping away from the original blueprint for the Diplomats and utilizing technology such as Auto-Tune on records.

Breaking into two separate sides, Hell Rell seemed to remain loyal to Killa as he has recently aired his grievances in regards to the other two that stood at the forefront as representation of the group.

Speaking with XXL, the rapper opened up more clarity to the situation at hand. No matter what issues there may be in the group, they were still a tight-knit family before so the feelings may still resonate.

“I go on the Internet and everybody saying I'm suing Jim Jones. That was a false report on the media's behalf. Yes, I do have a lawsuit pending with Koch… but, no, I'm not suing Jim. At the end of the day, we might all have our differences, we might not speak to each other on an everyday basis for certain reasons, but, no, I ain't suing nobody.”

Rell added that he personally had a conversation with Jones to clear the air and although Jones was thrown off by not being contacted earlier, this particular situation has been put to rest now between the two.

With everything going on with everyone else, it seemed as though there was an unsettling silence from that of Joell Ortiz as details have been scarce as to his process in his solo career with no mention of even an EP.

The silence has come to an abrupt stop as the Brooklyn Bomber Mr. Ortiz has announced that his second official album, Free Agent, will be out February 23.

Unlike the debut, however, Ortiz will not be releasing his second offering through Koch/e1 Entertainment.

Ever since the collation of Slaughterhouse came into fruition, it feels as though the sky has been the limit for the four rappers that have been able to make lyricism a top priority in the rap game again.

With EPs from Joe Budden and Royce Da 5'9 and an upcoming from Crooked I, the rap quartet has kept their name in everyone's ears and mouths since their self-titled debut dropped in July. Nickel was the first to leap with the release of Street Hop last Tuesday.

While speaking with Ortiz, HipHopWired was given a glimpse into the method of the madness that is Slaughterhouse and how the group will go about with future releases. In regards to his solo career, Ortiz explained that his album isn't just going to be released just to be released and stressed the importance of strategy.

“If it had to go in tomorrow, it could. Nothing will be sporadic when dealing with anything Slaughterhouse. It will all be in sequence; it will all be times. We're not one of those groups to just put things out. It's all going to be thought out and planned and we're going to make sure that in 2010, people are going to be talking about us.”

Ortiz has recently been in go mode as he has lit up the scene with freestyles by jacking “Crime Wave” and most recently “Run This Town” making it seems as though an appetizer is on the way before the main course.

Outside of rapping, Ortiz is making his round in the acting department. With a small role in Rik Cordero's film, Inside A Change, Ortiz is teaming up with actor Rick Gonzalez to shoot a pilot for a new show for early next year.
