Plans for the flick have been in the works for a while now. In March, Ice Cube announced that the script was nearly done, and that he had started the search for a director. "We're interviewing a lot of directors," he said. The 42-year-old's company, Cube Vision will produce the film, while the screenplay is written by Andrea Berloff, the woman behind Oliver Stone's World Trade Center."I don't want to say 'yay' or 'nay,' but we're interviewing directors. So, the movie's in progress in this high speed, it's coming along. Hopefully, we'll get it done."

Rumors have been circulating that Cube's son, Doughboy, will portray him in the film, while Eazy-E's son and namesake, Eric Wright Jr., is hoping to tackle the role of his late father. Eazy died from complications from AIDS back in 1995,  just 10 days after announcing his diagnosis.

No word yet on when Straight Outta Compton will hit the silver screen, but there's a pretty good chance that it will be released before Dr. Dre's Detox album.

TMZ caught up with Dr. Dre outside of Red O restaurant in Los Angeles where the legendary producer shed a little light on the forthcoming N.W.A. biopic.

When asked if the respective sons of the members of the iconic group would be playing their fathers in the film, Dre stated,

"We're talking about it...we'll see what happens."

Well we all know what that means, the film will probably be released the same day Detox drops.

While we wait on that,  I want to host the casting call for DJ Yella's next flick.

Eazy E 's son, Eric Wright Jr, wants in on the recently announced N.W.A. film.

And according to the late rapper's seed there is a “high probability” he will get the role of his father.

“I'm the perfect man for the job,” he tells TMZ. “Who better to play him in the N.W.A. days?”

Wright Jr, who goes by the moniker Lil Eazy E, says he has been in contact with the films producers but has yet to audition for the role.

That hasn't stopped Eazy part deux from promoting his assets however; “Like father, like son,” he said. “No makeup needed.”

As recently reported, John Singleton has been tapped to direct the film.

As previously reported, the biopic was said to already be in the works and was being  written by Andrea Berloff, a white woman noted for writing the screen play for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center.

Now Singleton's speaking out on the project and confirmed while doing press for the film "Abduction" that he and Ice Cube had discussed making the movie.

“I can't talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I'm doing because nothing's come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story,” Singleton told The Playlist.

“The script is really, really good, and so we're just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.”

 

The NWA biopic would tell the story of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, DJ Yella and MC Ren who rose to fame with their debut Straight Outta Compton.

Additional writers for the film include Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez.

Daughter of late West Coast rap legend Eazy-E and up-and-coming pop star E.B. Wright kept her father's name alive by celebrating the release of her debut single, “What I Wanna Do” and her father's birthday at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood, CA yesterday.

E.B. Wright created a signature shake in honor of her late father's birthday. Proceeds from E.B. Wright's shake went to A Place Called Home non-profit organization.

Eazy-E would have been 47 years old yesterday.

“OMG, he is a beast and I'm not just saying that,” Cube said. “[The thing is] My son is not trying to be a rapper, this rap stuff is a second option. This ain't his primary gig, so the comparisons don't bother me.”

According to published reports, Berloff, who is most noted for writing the screen play for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, is set to work with Ice Cube to write the story based on the rise and fall of the Compton, Calif.-based Hip-Hop group, whose initials read Ni*gaz With Attitude.

The group, which featured members Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, DJ Yella and MC Ren, went on to become Hip-Hop royalty starting with their critically acclaimed debut Straight Outta Compton, which produced the ghetto anthem “Fawk the Police.”

The legendary group went on to branch out in their separate directions but their branches and contributions to the game include Eminem, Snoop, 50 Cent, Mack 10 and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

As of press time there was no release date for the upcoming documentary, but it scheduled to be released through Ice Cube's Cubevision and New Line Cinema.
