Although their distinction bestowed onto Kendrick Lamar didn’t go over well, GQ is keeping their music awards going and as they have named Pharrell Williams Hitmaker of the Year for 2013.

Yesterday, TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith expressed disdain for what he perceived to be negative racial implications in GQ‘s cover story on Kendrick Lamar. Less than 24 hours later, the magazine’s EIC, Jim Nelson, has delivered a statement on gq.com defending his writer.

Top Dawg Entertainment has never had any qualms addressing the media or going to bat for their squad. In lieu of Kendrick Lamar’s recent GQ cover, the Californian Hip-Hop label should feel on the top of the world. Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith seems to feel differently, however.

Kendrick Lamar cleans up rather nice but he’s not the first rapper to get jiggy for the camera lens of GQ.

Kendrick Lamar‘s star continues to rise, as he joins an elite group of individuals selected to participate in GQ‘s annual Man Of the Year issue. His title would of course be “Rapper Of The Year” and this honor also comes with a spot on the magazine’s cover.
