Hip-Hop is continuing to support Haiti in its relief efforts and the latest addition to the cause comes from the Black grassroots organization The Hip-Hop Caucus and rapper / activist David Banner.

The Hip-Hop Caucus is reaching out to the country through the launch of their new website titled Hip-HopForHaiti.

To commemorate the new site launch and relief efforts, the Hip-Hop Caucus is scheduled to host a national conference call today January 19.

Calling in to the conference call will be a number of Hip-Hop and political leaders including MC Lyte , the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Banner himself.
In a recent interview with HipHopWired Banner spoke on his recent jump into activism and politics.

He tells HHW that while some people would use others “misery and pain” to their advantage, he does it from his heart and not for profit.

"A lot of people who are fighting these wars are fighting it for their selfish reasons. They not fighting it for the people, they fighting it for themselves, it's a show...

At the end of the day, I don't necessarily want to be a leader, if god calls on me and that's my place in society then I'll step to the foreground but I'm not trying to be a politician. If that happens then that's fine. You have to watch people who make money off of somebody else's misery and pain. I don't need something to happen and me go speak about it in order for me to make money…”

Banner will also be joined on the conference call by members of President Barack Obama's administration.

While a firm supporter of President Obama, David also revealed to HHW that he does have a few issues with the Head of State.

“I have my criticisms of the president, I support Obama, but there are some problems that I have because I don't follow Obama blindly. I don't follow him because he's Black. I follow him because based on what he said and he was the best person for the people, whether he was white or Black...

So the truth is we have to stop following people blindly and follow people because of their cause not because of them."

David Banner and the rest of the officials will discuss Haiti's earthquake relief efforts live at 9 p.m.

Members of the public can participate in the conference call and address questions to the leaders after they RSVP at HipHopHelpHaiti.org
