March was one helluva month Hip-Hop Wired FAM.

After reigning supreme over the game for the past two years, sadly we saw Lil Wayne start his prison bid. So much for the weed carriers stepping up on the team.

But fortunately the workaholic went in and recorded so much music and videos before he left that we'll hardly notice he's gone for the next several months. The Birdman even spoke with Hip-Hop Wired about this unfortunate incident and how they'll maintain with Weezy F. Baby gone.

Birdman Speaks On Lil Wayne's Jail Sentence [Video]

Despite that downer, we also saw some major glimpses of hope for the game as Diggy Simmons made it official that he was the heir to the throne as he signed with Atlantic Records. With an ill flow and swagg to match, Young Simmons might be the boy who'll one day be king.

Diggy Simmons: Made You Look Freestyle [Video]

And speaking of Kings, we continued to educate as we also took at look at the once powerful Five Percenter influence on Hip-Hop and how to help bring a positive balance back to the game.

Lord knows it's needed.

The GODS of Hip-Hop: A Reflection On the Five Percenter Influence On Rap Music & Culture

We also celebrated Women's History Month and took a look at the dormant female Hip-Hop genre.

Ladies we've gotten your emails and comments and we agree, there needs to me more femme fatales in Hip-Hop and with a balance of subject matter to go around too. The same way Nas can co-exist with Soulja Boy, there needs to be balance of Nicki Minajs and Lil Kims to the Lauryn Hills and Queen Latifahs.

With that said, Hip-Hop Wired is making it our mission to find more female MCs so if you know or are one of these hidden jewels, get at us and help showcase these sisters in their proper light.

Who You Calling A BIT*H? A Discussion On Female Roles In Hip-Hop

As we roll into April, we've got more in store for you as we take a look at some of the hottest MCs from the New West Movement as well as a few veterans ready to lay their mark back on the game.

Taking it back to the east my brother, we'll also check in with C-n-N as well as take some insightful looks at Black conservatives and a few revolutionaries and what some of these guys have in common. I guarantee you won't believe it.

As always, thanks for the continued support and helping us reach new heights and letting us edutain you.

Each 1, Teach 1…

Hip-Hop Wired Supporters:

We'd like to thank you for being loyal readers and following the site as today marks our 8th month anniversary.

Still a baby on the web forefront, we thank you for making us one of the fastest growing urban entertainment portals out here on the net.

Making it a mission to provide up-to-the minute Hip-Hop news and interviews with some of the game's elite MCs and showcasing hot new music, our goal is to always keep you interested and coming back.

We take pride in what we do and our mission also to “EDUTAIN” our readers. Whether it's covering the triumphs of President Obama or continuing to put the spotlight on police brutality since main stream media acts as if it's a thing of the past, Hip-Hop Wired is determined to be your voice and tell all the facets of our story.

In addition, we make it a point not to hide our dirty laundry and address our serious issues like Black-on-Black crime and the rise of teen violence which included last year's tragic death of Derrion Albert. Since some artists are a part of the problem, we don't hesitate to get them to weigh in too and take them to task when it's needed.

Trying to stop the violence, we even chopped it up with David Banner and Twista who had some candid words and views as we search for a solution.

Aside from the music, this month we held in depth talks with Dr. Boyce Watkins as we discussed with him his views on South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer comparing the poor and Black people to stray animals. (Yeah he had the balls to go there.)

Not resting there, Hip-Hop Wired also tackled the tragic earthquake in Haiti as well as the racial slanders that followed. From Rush Limbaugh wanting to stop aid to our brothers and sisters in need or Pat Robertson blaming the catastrophe on Haiti's pact with the devil, we checked them and we checked them good.

We even took a closer look at the so called “Pact With Devil” as we explored France and The United States' role in the crippling of Haiti's economy since they took their independence in 1804.

A “crime” the white slave owners have refused to get over as they continue to penalize them for organizing the first successful slave revolt in the Americas.

As I stated earlier, our mission is to “EDUTAIN” and the journey with you, our family, is just beginning.

We've got a few new surprises in store next month as we take a look inside the belly of the beast. Does it really rehabilitate or is it just a modern day slave plantation for some.

Also be on the lookout for the upcoming Hip-Hop Wired video channel.

We're just getting started so thanks again for the love and support as we continue to grow with you and take Hip-Hop forward.

Producer and video director extraordinaire QD3 has partnered with video game developers Genius Products to develop “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.” Alongside Mixmaster Mike from The Beastie Boys, the veteran West Coast boardsmith will help supply instrumentals and song selections for the new gaming endeavor. QD3 recently checked in with HipHopWired about his latest venture and bringing Hip-Hop's pulse back to the forefront.

HipHopWired: First of all, how did you become involved with the development of “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ?”

QD3: I was working with Genius Products on the home video front. We're doing some films with them and they suggested that I take a meeting with the gaming division. They invited me down, we played one of the rhythm based games that's out on the marketplace right now and they were like we're basically planning on doing an urban version of “Guitar Hero.” They basically told me that the difference between what they were doing and what a lot of other people were doing in the music video game space was that in this game you can actually win the game by adding your own creativity instead of just following exactly what the songs were.

HipHopWired: Sort of like in Hip-Hop, originality stands out.

QD3: Exactly. I thought that was real conducive to how Hip-Hop works which is that everybody wants to show people what they can do their way. I thought that was a really unique approach because in this game you can actually upload your own sounds and add your own flare with the scratches and stuff and get extra points instead of just having to do exactly what the game is telling you to do. I thought that was really cool and immediately became very interested in getting involved.

HipHopWired: You're a consultant on this project but did you produce beats for “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ” as well?

QD3: I'm doing a few beats and it's a couple of songs I did with some artists like Ice Cube and other people are in the game also.

HipHopWired: When is the game expected to be released?

QD3: We're looking at the first of the year between January and February but we'll be announcing a date real soon.

HipHopWired: How will “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ” showcase the once focal point of Hip-Hop?

QD3: I think one thing that people forget is that the DJ was really the first person to bring attention to Hip-Hop. Before the MC, I'm pretty sure even before the break dancers, the DJ was the star. Kool Herc was the big guy and Flash was the guy and then rappers were sort of MCing and doing what they were doing. So I think that's an interesting thing so this list is really a celebration of that time and sort of bringing the love back to the DJ because they actually helped usher all this off from day one.

HipHopWired: Do you think games like this allow novices to believe that they can become a real DJ. In today's times, some think that all you need to do is have MP3s and hook it up to a computer and some speakers and all of a sudden they making the crowd move and forget about the science involved in it. The same theory applies to many of the DJ video game users.

QD3: I think DJing is kind of hard to do no matter what. Even if you got an MP3 Player, it just makes it easier to travel. You don't have to carry your crates. I still think there's a craft involved in it for sure. Like putting the right songs together and scratching is a type of hand movement that you don't just pick up out of nowhere. It takes skill to do it, no matter what. I would say it's definitely easier and it's definitely a little more pre fab but I think to be good, it's hard to do anything good so it'll still require work.

HipHopWired: What will separate “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ” from other DJ video systems?

QD3: The difference between this game and a lot of other games is our controller. Plus we were able to do this game in a really authentic way but we didn't really have a lot of filters. The song selections were all songs that we felt were like the best songs from everything from Whodini to Lil Wayne to Kanye. Run DMC, The Beastie Boys…we were able to really create a song list that I feel is non-filtered. It's commercial but it's still very authentic. In terms of the controller, it's the only game that I'm aware of that actually has two brand names involved. We have Akai who makes the MPC sampling drum machine and they made the drum pads on the controllers. So it's just like an MPC where you're hitting the sample pads.

HipHopWired: What's the other brand name involved?

QD3: On the DJ side, the turntables and the fader are made by Numark so those are the number one companies in each of those categories for drum machine and DJ equipment. When you play this, it's the closest thing you can get to actually using the real equipment and plus having the MPC factor in there where you can trigger actual samples from the songs. So what we did, we basically licensed the multi tracks for this game so that people can manipulate the kick, the snare, vocal samples, the chorus, keyboard parts, and guitar parts. You really have access to all the separate elements to the song for the first time that I'm aware of in any game.

HipHopWired: So you're kind of creating your new competition and inspiring new producers.

QD3: It's really like a mini production studio so if you're an aspiring DJ or an aspiring producer or someone that just loves music, you may get turned on to being a producer through the game. I think this is a cool way for a little bit over $100, you basically have a production suite where you can trigger samples and manipulate original sounds and DJ all in one box. On top of that you can upload your own sounds through a USB port into the game. Basically if you wanted to, you can upload your own vocals saying your DJ name and you can go back into the game and win with your sounds.

HipHopWired: So you can't win if you're biting what everyone else is doing which is sort of like how the actual music is. The video game tip sheet won't work here.

QD3: So to me that's the spirit of Hip-Hop. You can do it your way. That's what's kind of unique about this, you can win the game with your sounds, you don't have to follow any molds. I think a lot of people will have fun just basically remixing songs that they like and two adding their own flavor to those songs. That's a stand lone entertainment value and on top of that you have the game aspect where you can battle each other. I think it combined a lot of different things that people will like that'll enable you to enjoy it for a longer time and in a deeper way than just playing a “Simon Says” game where you hold your hand over what someone else is doing.

HipHopWired: That sounds dope. I can't wait to play it. Before we wrap this up, you also sent in a play list for HipHopWired “Wired Mixtape” to give a feel of what to expect in the game. A lot of the tracks are old school so is that how “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ” is gonna be set up?

QD3: The play list that I sent is basically my favorite DJ-inspired cuts so either they're songs where the DJ is really doing his thing or songs where DJing has been used in creative ways. Some of these songs, like “Nuthin But a g Thang” and a few others are in the game also. But the tracks for “Wired Mixtape” is a mixtape to me that's like the best of the DJ songs where the DJ may not be doing his thing all the way through the song, but the MC might be talking about the DJ in a way that celebrates the DJ and puts the focal point on the DJ.

Everybody has an opinion on the split of Roc-A-Rella Records and whether it was Jay-Z or Damon Dash's fault. In an interview with Rugah TV, Bobby Dash spoke on the demise of Roc-A-Fella. Keeping it neutral and not taking his brother Damon's side or Jay-Z's, Bobby said:

“In ‘02, I started seeing funny moves and a lack of communication. Beginning ‘05, it was the demise and paperwork was made. It was an accumulation of things that went on and how people said Cam'ron did it. And not to sh&$ on nobody but you can't get into Forbes Magazine with three ni**as eating off your plate. Only way you can get into Forbes Magazine and you getting bread is if that bread is not being cut up and you get all the money. If your company is making a lot of money, then you as an individual can't get the accolades of Forbes Magazine. You can't be like Puff if you gotta break your money up with this guy and that guy. Puff broke his money up with no one. Same with Master P when he was in there a lot. All his bread was his bread. So with Roc-A-Fella, Roc-A-Wear, this and that, that money was getting cut up. So in order to get it not cut, you gotta diversify. Nothing personal, sh%$ happens. The diversification came about and everybody had to do what they had to do to continue moving.”

Dash also says that Jigga over reacted to Cam'ron being named Vice President at Roc-A-Fella and that Roc-A-Fella was damn near over before Cam signed to the label. He added:

“ Within Motown, there were a number of Vice-Presidents. So for him to come in and be President of The Diplomats and be on Roc-A-Fella… if you're at Roc-A-Fella and you're the President of your own entity, then at the very least you're a Vice-President in here. Which at the end of the day Beans would have been a Vice-President because he's the President of State Property. Bleek would have been Vice-President because he's President of Get Low. Everybody had their own lane to make their own statements but Cam was the only that was out there... As a man a lotta times you gotta take a step back and look at the situation for what it is. He's the President of Dip which makes him an executive at Roc-A-Fella… because he's in charge of that department. So the (reaction) was kind of gay because all you have to do is think for a second about how companies are ran…”

Bobby Dash also spoke on how most of the artists like Beans, Freeway, Kanye West and others followed Jay-Z and how most wound up being unsuccessful on the business aspect after Dame was erased from the picture.

“All the dudes that…went the other direction, and not to sh&$ on going the other direction but that's not the direction that's gonna be speaking up for you. The person that is gonna fight for you is over here. The one that always fought for you is on this side. And ya'll went to the other side so if you're expecting someone to fight for you, then you went to the wrong side because on that side it's about business. It's about make sure you take care of your business, make sure you get your businesses right and then you'll be alright. But my brother was like babysitting and was like not only is this ya'll business but this is my business and now I gotta make sure ya'll carry my business and your business properly.

Prominent Harvard Professor and black scholar, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested Thursday trying to get into his locked Massachusetts home. A woman alerted police that a man was trying to pry open the front door of a nearby house. According to The Associated Press, when police arrived they asked him to identify himself but Dr. Gates refused. He then called an officer a racist and said, “This is what happens to Black men in America.”

Police declined to comment Monday. He is the director of Harvard's W.E.B. Dubois Institute for African and American Research and Editor-in-Chief of TheRoot.com, an online African American magazine.
