DJ Ro is straight out of the 504 with the Louisiana drawl and persona to go with it. This veteran DJ has been engrossed in the Magnolia state's Hip-Hop scene for two decades and has a firsthand account of how the music scene's grown and changed. This mix-show DJ for Q93 FM sat down with HipHopWired to tell us about the state of Hip-Hop in New Orleans post-Katrina, what 'Bounce music' does to the ladies and who's next to blow in the Big Easy.

Origin: New Orleans, LA-The Lower 9th ward
Current Location: The Westbank of New Orleans (Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina)

HipHopWired: Tell me a little bit about how you got started DJing.

DJ Ro: In the 80s,one of my hobbys was going to the local skating rink in the 9th ward, "SkateLand" on Wednesday nights and they would have DJs like DJ Slick Leo- the 1st Dj to Bring Mixing to New Orleans,Slick Mike,LBJ and my older brother MC Action Jackson. The DJs would be mixing & scratching,it was very exciting. The memory I have that influenced me to become a DJ was when Slick Leo mixed & scratched Tina Marie "Square Biz." He took it from the top over and over and I was amazed!!!

From that point on any stereo equipment i could find around the house I experimented with.Shortly after that with the financial support of my older sister Linda I formed my first mobile DJ group at age 16. We were the R.D.S. Express which included myself, MC. Doc and DJ Smokey B. who were my boys from the neighborhood.A couple of years later I formed another company "High Fidelity" which included myself,MC. Rocky V. and I would subcontract other DJs, rappers and MCs.

HipHopWired: How'd you get started spinning for Q93?

DJ Ro: I worked hard at marketing my business in the neighborhood and house parties and then school dancers. That was the beginning of DJ Ro becoming a household name in the New Orleans area. Lebron Joseph also known as LBJ at the time was working as a announcer at WQUE FM ( Q 93 ). He knew of my dedication to the art of DJing and he informed me that the station would be seeking another mixshow disc jockey in the coming months and i should send air-check tapes,so that's what I did.

I sent mixed tapes to the music director every Tuesday for 4 months before I received a call back. I went live on air with LBJ hosting. I played the same format I would at any house party or school dance and the phone lines lit up!!! As they say,the rest is history,I'm on my 19th year doing Club 93.

HipHopWired: Tell me more about Don't Even Trip Entertainment, what are you doing with that?

DJ Ro: Don't Even Trip is my Entertainment company I use to share my marketing and promotion skills. I also use my company to display new talent through my CDs.

HipHopWired: Let's talk about the Louisiana music scene, are you guys still heavy into bounce music?

DJ Ro: Bounce music is a major part of our Hip Hop scene. The energy level Bounce brings to the club is what makes it special. When dat beat comes on, the hot girlz go crazy, poppin and catching the wall! Bounce music helps a DJ shine in this market. It's a must to get the party on Bubble!!!

HipHopWired: Who are some artists to look for in Louisiana?

DJ Ro: Lil Wayne,Juvinele,Mannie Fresh,B.G.,Chopper City Boyz,DJ Jubilee,10 Ward Buck,5th Ward Webbie,Detroit,JMS, Gotti Boi Chris,Chopper,Big Freeda,Magnolia Shorty,Skip,Lil Bossie, Webbie, CTC Dank,Merk,C.Murder,Just to name a few...We have a lot of unsigned talent here!!!

HipHopWired: Well on a more serious note, do you see a difference in Louisiana music post Katrina? How has it changed or is it still the same?

DJ Ro: It's not so much of the music being different here in the city.During the storm the city was divided and everyone is in different places which makes it harder for our artists to relay the message that usually would come from our city, our neighborhoods, our overall lifestyle here in New Orleans. I feel when you're not in your roots ,you can't give the message of your people!!! A lot of our artists who are no longer in the city have adopted other lifestyles and are sending messages through their music that their fans back home can't relate to.

HipHopWired: Okay. So you guys are known for your dancing down there, is there a new dance craze we don't know about up here that y'all are doing?

DJ Ro: Bounce music make the Ladies get Wild!!! P. Popping, catching the wall, catching the floor or if your not from here, you probably would refer to it as backing that azz up. That's what we like to see!!!

HipHopWired: Well as a Louisiana DJ, what do you think about all these Louisiana rappers getting locked up? You've got Lil Boosie in jail, Wayne's on the way….

DJ Ro: I personally don't like to see my Hip-Hop family in that situation. We are all in this together trying to keep Hip-Hop alive and feed our families. I wish anyone who is facing jail time seek God and use the time to reflect on better choices. We all make mistakes,It's what you learn from them that gives you a second chance.

HipHopWired: With Lil Wayne being the biggest artist to come out of Louisiana do you see anyone else following in his footsteps?

DJ Ro:Yes, Lil Wayne has accomplished a lot but He is not the last who can achieve that level of success. In fact, for all the people out there...do you think you are you the next Weezy or feel you're better??? Let us take a listen. Email me at djro504@gmail.com

HipHopWired: Okay, cool. What do you think about BG getting himself together and getting back on the music scene?

DJ Ro: I am happy to see BG during his thing!!! I met BG with Cash Money in his early stages, he would stay in the car and write while we partied. He was groomed to be a superstar and he keeps it 100.

HipHopWired: Are you working on anything right now? Any mixtapes?

DJ Ro: I'm working on other volume of "DJ Ro Presents" Anyone can summit songs to me at DJRo504@gmail.com

HipHopWired: Alright Ro, any last words? Any shoutouts?

DJ Ro: I want to Shout out all my New Orleans people all over the world. Keep the faith and shout as loud as you can, GO SAINTS,THANK YOU GOD!!!

While other entities are naming the top albums of the decade, Billboard, the premier music chart publication, is placing Fat Joe's Terror Squad and rapper Mims near the top of a list of their own.

The two MCs are getting recognition today however for a less than stellar accomplishment, outranking all of Hip-Hop on Billboard's list of top one hit wonders of the decade.

Joey Crack's Terror Squad lineage came in at a crippling #2 on the list of one hit wonders for their 2004 hit “Lean Back.” Coming in at a close fourth place is Mims whose 2007“This is Why I'm Hot” was a hot track that fizzled and died soon after.

Atlanta's resident snap and roll home team of D4L came in at #5 for “Laffy Taffy,” while Cee-Lo's Gnarls Barkley super duo came in at #7 for “Crazy.”

Here's the complete list of one hit wonders in Hip-Hop:

J-Kwon Tipsy #11

Lil Romeo-My baby #14

Youngbloodz and Lil Jon- Damn #18

Cassidy/R. Kelly- Hotel #21

Rich Boy-Throw Some Ds #27

Hurricane Chris- A Bay Bay #30

Jibbs- Chaing Hang Low #31

Young Dro/T.I. Shoulder Lean #39

Hurricane Chris is definitely not a one hit wonder, neither is Cassidy or The YoungBloodz. We'll give Rich Boy a pass too because he probably has more Zone 4 hits to come.

There were spot on with Jibbs and J-Kwon though!

Check out the rest of Billboard's 'One Hit Wonder' list.

"As far as working with Beanie, It's a motivational song called “Tell That I Won't Run Away.” It's for all my strong Black people and Beanie Man putting that Jamaican fire on there and it's a mixture of both our styles and it represents the struggle."

Hurricane Chris has held down radio this year with his monstrous single “Halle Berry.” But as many of his fans have been wondering, when's the album coming. Signed to Polo Grounds/ J Records, the Louisiana fire spitter broke down the hold up and the upcoming 2010 release of his sophomore album, Unleashed. Speaking with Hip-Hop Wired, he stated,

“We got a lot of business that be going on behind the scenes [that's being worked out]. You get in music, most of the time you think it's just going to be all about music, but there's a lot of business behind it. I'm going through a whole lot with them record labels just trying to make them speed that process up because I got like 10,000 hits that I'm ready to drop. I had to jump “Halle Berry” of on my own and then they got behind it. You basically gotta promote yourself now.”

In the meantime, Chris is still fine-tuning his upcoming release and revealed a little of what to expect.

“So I got a mixtape I'm about to drop right now. I'm gonna heat the streets all the way up so we just waiting on the label to get ready. The name of my album is Unleashed. We steady switching the date so you know, we pushing it back. I got another video that's going to come out right now…I got a single out with Mario and Plies called “Headboard.” It's on and it's picking up heavy…we out promoting it right now. I got a lot on the album too. When the album comes you gonna get a different side of me, probably something you ain't got from me before. You getting all my versatility in this album. I got features from Beanie Man, it's just on a whole other level. So when we release Unleashed, you gonna know what time it is.”

Hurricane also will showcase more of his enlightening songs which many have overlooked as they wrongfully place him in a ringtone rap category. Try stepping to him cocky and over confident and you'll probably be the one taking the L. Adding a little detail about his upcoming music and his new mixtape dropping right before Christmas, he added,

“The mixtape is coming two weeks. It's called Hurricane The Great…Louis-Animal 2. Only one song from the mixtape, “Beat It Out The Frame,” will probably be on the album. It's a club banger… As far as working with Beanie, It's a motivational song called “Tell That I Won't Run Away.” It's for all my strong Black people and Beanie Man putting that Jamaican fire on there and it's a mixture of both our styles and it represents the struggle."

Unleashed will also include production Funk Dog (A Bay Bay), Shawty Red, Bangladesh, KLC, and The Incredibles.

To all readers out there, viewer's discretion is slightly advised in relation to this. Stating it simply, an interview with Louisiana rapper Lil Boosie from The Smoking Section revealed a glimpse into the nightlife that is Bad Azz. The answers stemmed from a question that basically asked the rapper what was his craziest interaction with a female while being on the road:

Lil' Boosie: ...We be sticking pill up girl's booty too!

TSS: Ok look, now I heard on the mixtape with Hurricane Chris, you mentioned that. What's up with that?

Lil' Boosie: Yea, it kicks in after 20 seconds. It hits them in 20 seconds.

TSS: How does someone even find that out?

Lil' Boosie: I get it from my cousin. He did it to a few girls way back in the game. And it just took off. I put it in a song. Everything I put in a song, I've tried it. So I put it in her booty hole and it melted. It melts in their booty hole and it hits them in 20 seconds. You never know what they're gonna do. They may break out crying talking about their momma doesn't love them or something. It hit them in the booty hole good. The booty is like eating the pill.

So ecstasy must be the new date rape drug. This is an alert to all women that go to the clubs. Whenever you all decide to grind on a dude, or girl if you prefer, make sure you know what you're backing it up into or else you might find some ecstasy in your booty hole. This must be the hidden meaning to "Wipe Me Down."

A response to such things would be far too extensive for this article, but the thoughts are self-explanatory. On that note, Lil Boosie will be coming out with Super Bad: The Return of Bad Azz which hits shelves on September 15. Other updates could be used in regards to the status of Boosie, but this is too priceless to overlook.

Last year, on July 22nd, Houston rap history was made as native rap artist, Trae Tha Truth, was honored by his city with the reading of a Proclamation declaring that day "Trae Day"; the first time this honor was given to a rap artist. The honor was bestowed upon Trae for his constant and selfless work within the communities of Houston, focusing on at-risk youth.

The ceremony was followed by a free family Block Party, replete with members of Houston City Council alongside a host of local music celebrities and was attended by some 10,000 people, who braved sweltering temperatures in the high 90's to congratulate Trae and line up for the free school supplies he had provided.

This coming Wednesday, July 22nd, from 3-9PM, history will repeat itself as Trae and friends take over the parking lot of TSU Stadium for the biggest daytime party to hit the South Side. Trae will be joined by US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Members of Houston City Council Peter Brown and Ron Green, as well as a host of music celebrities from far and wide including Bun B, Rick Ross, Gorilla Zoe, Mannie Fresh, Yung Joc, Hurricane Chris, Shawty Lo, and Slim Thug.

Other confirmed attendees include Blood Raw & USDA, Rich Boy, GS Boys, Rocko, and NBA baller Ron Artest. , The day will include a great roster of family activities with live performances, train rides, pony rides, face painting and moonwalks and will also offer an HIV/STD testing site and free school supplies while they last.

Contests include a watch giveaway by renowned jeweler, King Johnny and rims courtesy of Texan Wire Wheels and local station 97.9 The Box will provide a live remote. A more adult celebration/ after-party will be held later that night at the Roxy Nightclub.
