T.I. Joins Hip Hop Since 1978 Management

T.I. is making moves like a man making up for lost time.

Along with a slew of remixes and a new book, Tip has now upgraded his management team joining Gee Roberson's Hip Hop Since 1978 management according to Billboard.Biz.

HHS1978 also boasts Lil Wayne, Drake and Kanye West as clients.

Previously managed under his own Grand Hustle Entertainment by Jason Jeter, the Kang says this move is all about expansion and his rapport with Gee, former VP of A&R at Atlantic records and current chairman at Geffen records.

"Gee's always been a big part of our operation just not in the capacity of manager," said T.I. "[From] the executive producer standpoint and A&R standpoint, he made gigantic contributions to probably the past three or four T.I. albums, but he's assumed a large responsibility over at Geffen so that kind of took a big part of my team away.

When [Jason Geter] and I both agreed that we would be considering expanding the management team, and then sat down and talked about possible candidates, he was definitely one of the first people that came up."

Tip says Jeter will still play a behind the scenes role in his career.

“Of course you also have Grand Hustle management - Jason still maintains his position. You have Gee and [Hip Hop Since] '78 who come in with their expertise in several areas, who works alongside [Jason]. And then you got Category 5, Brian Sher [founder of Category 5 Entertainment, formerly of ICM], who's there from the film and television area," he said.

"I've got different pieces of management who have extreme levels of expertise in their areas… We feel that's the best way to have appropriate execution and to take advantage of all the opportunities that are ever present in the marketplace for me."

T.I.'s AKOO clothing line is causing controversy in New Jersey after billboards for the line have been deemed “racy” and “inappropriate.”

The billboards show a man with his jeans slightly unbuttoned and his underwear showing with a woman kneeling in front of him.

Agreeing with the sentiments that the ads are inappropriate is Newark Mayor Corey Booker who released a statement saying,

“So often when I am out in the community I see kids wearing their pants too low and others using inappropriate language in public... I will work with my city council to see if we can address it so we don't see these types of advertisements displayed in our city in the near future.”

AKOO or “A King Of One's Self” has since released a statement of its own saying that the ads were not meant to be offensive but mean to “inspire individualism and creativity.”

HUH???

“The AKOO brand has always aimed to inspire individualism and creativity. Our advertising campaign was not created to offend or insult anyone but to simply provoke dialogue and thought regarding male/female sexuality within urban culture. We hope that as more of the campaign is debuted, people will see the multifaceted personality of AKOO.”

Neither T.I. nor Jason Geter, the co-founders of the line, have released personal statements on the matter.

AKOO's “inspiring” campaign can be seen below.

Now that's what I call inspiration...

Just yesterday, T.I.'s Grand Hustle record label was the victim of a bomb scare. As previously reported, police were called to the scene after two Molotov cocktails were found near the label's office. Now the CEO of the company Jason Geter is speaking out in his co-founder's absence about the incident. Geter spoke with reps for MTV News about what occurred.

According to him, an alarm went off around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. When Grand Hustle staff went to investigate the situation, they discovered that one of the windows had been broken by a 40 oz. bottle. No suspects have been named as of yet, but Geter did tell the news network that he has someone in mind.

“A kid came over there a couple of days ago that acted kind of crazy, I wasn't there, but some kid that was a little off was pretty much asking for somebody to come to his party. He got a little irate when he was in the office. We're kind of assuming it was him. He made a couple of threats when he was in the office. Two days later, this happens. You can't help but say, 'It must have been this idiot.'”

The record label is moving on from the incident and preparing for Young Dro's release, P.O.L.O. a.k.a. Players Only Live Once.

Through a venture with Heatwave Interactive, which is a game studio and online publisher, it has been announced that rapper T.I. and his cohorts of the Grand Hustle label will be appearing in the game Platinum Life.

T.I.'s role in the online game is to act as a guide for players in the ashy to classy lifestyle as he will lead them in the journey from a struggling musician that only has a dream into a successful artist with millions as far as the mind can comprehend.

"Heatwave Interactive understood the love T.I. has for his millions of fans and his need to establish a stronger connection with them in a way that is interactive and real," said Jason Geter, CEO of Grand Hustle, LLC.

The game is set in the Hip-Hop world as the player begins as an unsigned act and must make the necessary steps to achieve their celebrity status. It can be thought of as The Sims for the rap game. Players will be asked to perform at local bars and clubs and essentially hustle their way to the top of the game.

In the enterprising aspect, Platinum Life will serve as a means for artists to further expand in terms of business. This new model will allow artists the ability to truly engage with their fans which can only add further revenue along with entertainment prospects.

As of now, the game is still in the early stages of production as Heatwave is in the process of gaining more relationships with acts in the Hip-Hop, R&B and pop community that could also be part of this online experience.

"Our online game experience allows top-level artists to share their music, video and lifestyle with their huge fan bases in a personal and innovative way," said Anthony Castoro, co-founder and chief creative officer, Heatwave Interactive. "We feel that T.I.'s music, message and deeply engaged fan base make him ideal as an icon within the game."

It seems as though even with the King away in prison, he is still making sure that his name is still in the back of everyone's mind until he makes his return.

Along with the upcoming game, T.I. is also set to appear in the film Takers alongside Matt Dillon, Chris Brown and Idris Elba. The film is a crime thriller about a Los Angles detective that is on the verge of diffusing a plan made by thieves who are trying to carry out a $20 million heist. The release date is set for January 8.
