Kanye West Debuts Cruel Summer Amongst The Stars [VIDEO]

Kanye West held a private screening of his Cruel Summer film. The festivities were enjoyed inside of white pyramid tent, housing an A-list audience including Jay-Z and members of the G.O.O.D Music family. The 30-minute project is set to make its grand debut at the annual Cannes Film Festival on May 25th.

The Guardian dissects and explains the project's synopsis:

"Made in association with the Doha Film Institute, Cruel Summer stars West's GOOD Music protege Kid Cudi as a bloke of bad stock. Dad was a car thief – Kid's desperate not to follow in his footsteps, so instead he walks through a sparkly purple door into the middle of the desert. Men on horseback arrest him. He's taken to a palace full of fruit. A blind girl plucks a giant guitar string. Cudi's wrapped in bandages. A hawk flies. In, ultra, slow, motion. Cudi resolves to cure his love of her blindness. The cure for blindness is a remix of a song by Coldplay."

Kanye's insightful commentary on the direction and vision for the Cruel Summer project:

"It related to a post-Steve Jobs, post-Windows era, where we're always on our BlackBerry in a ball game or at the movies," West said. "I was very particular about having the screens separate, where your mind puts the screens back together, the way you put memories together. I'm not the best director in the world, but I had an idea that I thought would be amazing to inspire people, like a dream of one day this being the way people watch movies. You know, [Quentin] Tarantino doing a movie like this or a horror movie like this, animation, 3-D ... in this form that surrounds you. People want to go back and see it more and more because they missed something to their left or to their right, and it feels more like the experience of life."

Rappers love to bite the hand that feeds them. The music game can be a bumpy ride, and at some point the public glare becomes too much to stomach. Retiring is definitely within their rights, but with so many people claiming to be done with music—but never actually making steps to leave the spotlight— but threatening to walk away from music has become more of a publicity stunt, and less of a believable proclamation.

Earlier today, T.I. became the latest MC to announce that he “wants out” of the music game, because he doesn't like the direction in which things are going. Being that he runs a record label, and is the self-proclaimed King of the South, the idea of him completely walking away seems farfetched, but we'll humor him anyway. In honor of Tip's unofficial announcement, here are six other rappers who said they'd walk away from the game—but never did.

2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, Missy Elliot Round Up Rock The Bells 2012 Lineup

Music Festivals are the new snapbacks, they're cool until you can't turn a corner without seeing one of them pop up. This years Rock The Bells will feature a who's who of today's headlines and rising stars such as Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz and rounded out with dependable reoccurring sets like Nas, Dipset, Slick Rick, Too $hort, and Methon Man & Redman. There are a lot of question marks surrounding this years lineup; What will Cam'Ron and Nas do when they see each other?, Kendrick Lamar + Schoolboy Q + Ab-Soul + Jay Rock finally make a mark with Black Hippie?, will KiD CuDi reprise his WZRD act?, Wiz Khalifa bring out Amber Rose?, Mac Miller outshine everyone? (Crowds respond to him, don't hate), but what is sure to steal the show is the return of Missy Elliot, accompanied by partner in crime producer Timbaland.

Bone Thugs n Harmony, who seem to be re-energized with the return of all 5 original members and a new album on the way. The group will be performing their 'E 1999 Eternal' album, in its entirety.

This past weekend, KiD CuDi showed attendees of his sold out Geneseo, NY concert that he still had bars. Yes, you heard it right. The G.O.O.D. Music artist seems to be rapping again. Kanye West & Kid Cudi Shooting Music Video In Qatar [PHOTOS]

Back in February, word got out that Kanye West was filming a mini-movie in the Middle East. Now more details are emerging and it seems that Yeezy and Kid Cudi are out in Qatar shooting a music video. A student working on the production dropped dime and spilled two and half beans about the quasi-top secret shoot to Doha News (spotted at Hip Hop-N-More).

“The whole thing was pretty top-secret, It was interesting to see exactly how music videos were produced and how many takes they have to take,” he said, adding that the models' attire was “culturally sensitive.”

Right. While there are no details about which song the video is exactly for, more than likely it is a tune from the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation album. Peep some photos from the Middle Eastern set in the gallery.
