Pusha T Talks Re-Up Gang's 'Long Live The Caine' Mixtape, Malice [Video]

Pusha T assures fans that the Re-Up Gang's Long Live The Caine mixtape is on the way. In an interview with FUSE's 'Hip Hop Shop,' the G.O.O.D. Music rapper, and one half of the Clipse, relayed that he is just excited about the project as his faithful listeners.

“The Long Live The Cain mixtape is something that's going to go back to what you guys know as the Re-Up Gang…” says Push A Ton. “It's so crazy man, I actually can't really wait for it because you've heard me, you've heard [Ab] Liva sporadically this year. And for some reason people act as if though Malice, ya know, once you have it you don't have it anymore. Or they act as if though, they don't know where he's going to go.”

Pusha is referring to his older brother, and the other half of Clipse, who last year released a book called Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked. Malice has focused more on his spirituality lately, causing some to think it will adversely impact his music. However, Pusha is quick to disagree with any such theories.

“Me personally, I heard him the same way when he was rhyming on the first Re-Up Gang mixtapes,” says Malice. “I don't know why people are even questioning what's it going to be. He always was the more introspective one. He always was the more, to me the more thought provoking and the more consequential of the three of us.”

Malice continues, “Why the big question today? Because he took time off, wrote his book—a successful book, an awesome book. Why the question about the music? I have no clue, but I can't wait to show everybody.”

The Re-Up Gang roster is currently Malice, Pusha and Ab-Liva. Pusha's proper full length G.O.O.D. Music debut—last year's Fear Of God II: Let Us Pray was an EP—is due sometime in 2012. As for Long Live The Caine, it's in the works.

“Right now it's all about finding the right music," says Pusha. "Everybody's waiting on it. But I'm definitely not going to just throw something out there so people can tear it apart, at all. So right now it's about finding the right music and stashing it away. Once we get that solid body [claps], then going forward.”

Things I Didn't Know A Week Ago Part 5

Last week I learned a lot about the industry. There were artists I had heard about but hadn't heard, moves that were made that seemed odd and some events that have sparked predictions. I feel enlightened.

T.I. Is An Author
One of the facts I became hip to was T.I.'s novel and it's importance in his career.
Tip has been on every and any talk show from Chelsea Lately to The View promoting his book Power & Beauty. I think it's a great strategy to push a book once you leave prison, and considering 50 Cent, Malice and every other rapper that has work in Barnes & Nobles, "author" is the new "emcee."

10 Hip-Hop Authors

As Hip-Hop continues to grow and expand it's reach beyond music, it seems as if more and more rappers are adding the title "author" to their resumes.

Just this week Common released his book, One Day It'll All Make Sense, adding to a list of rappers like Jay-Z, Malice, T.I. and Nas, who have either released books or signed book deals in the last 12 months.

Hit the next pages to view our list of Hip-Hop rappers that have put down the mic to pen books.

Pusha T Lands Role In "How To Make It In America"

While Pusha T's brother and group member Malice is busy thinking up a new moniker, the Clipse rapper turned G.O.O.D. Music emcee continues to enjoy the solo dolo limelight.

According to reports, Pusha T will appear on four episodes of the HBO series How To Make It In America, when the show returns for its second season.

The show's writer Ian Edelman and HBO music supervisor Scott Verner confirmed Pusha's role on Twitter this week.

The rapper will play, of all things, a drug dealer, but when that HBO money comes calling, who's Pusha T to turn it away because the role is cliche.

Season one of How To Make It In America featured Pusha's labelmate Scott "KiD CuDi" Mescudi.

Season two is currently in production.

No word on whether Pusha T's role would require him to cut off his slave braids, but it should.

This story also reminded me to cut HBO back on before Entourage and True Blood start their new seasons this summer.

Malice of The Clipse Plans To Change His Name

While his brother Pusha T is enjoying a solo career on G.O.O.D. Music, the other half of The Clipse, Malice, is pondering a name change.

Malice is a new man since finding religion, and now he wants to distance himself from his rap moniker all together.

“I'm not a malicious person, and I don't really like answering to that," he said in a recent interview. "I know that people that follow The Clipse or follow my music, they know Malice, so I understand that, I get that. But you don't want to be under any moniker that's of evil intent, that's not you. I come to more believe that there's so much power in the tongue.

The power of the tongue is life and death, so I believe if you are what you fall under whether it's in your subconscious or not. It's just me trying to clean up a little bit. But I haven't thought of that name yet. So Malicious is what it is right now.”

Malice, who has been promoting his new book Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked, also commented on his desire to write a book versus touching a mic, “When I went through my experience, I wasn't thinking about music,” he said. "I had to put it into the book and just share it once and for all."

Although the entire Clipse catalog is covered in coke rap, the man known as Malice (for right now), doesn't disown the music he made as part of the Clipse.

“The Clipse catalog, it's a great catalog of music. We were right there with The Neptunes at the height of the whole Star Trak thing in the Clipse, so I'm definitely proud of it,” he said. “And I'm even more so proud of it because it has presented me with this platform here. If I had not have had the first platform, I wouldn't have this platform, so they all play a part with each other.

It's about evolving, it's about growing and nothing stays the same. I would be very much ashamed if I come to you next year the same place I was three years ago. I'm seeing the big picture, and a lot of times we think we're writing the script, but really, we're not.”

Malice Releases His New Book "Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind And Naked”

Malice Of The Clipse is taking his intellect and lyrical skills to a new forum; the world of publishing to touch his legion of fans.

In doing so, the lyricist, real name Gene Elliot Thorton Jr., has released his first book “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind And Naked”, a diary of sorts on real life experiences that shaped his life.

HipHopWired had a chance to sit down with the wordsmith and speak on the book that touches on Christianity, the harsh realities of real life and redemption.

While assuring HipHopWired that he “wasn't crazy”, the VA emcee detailed stories about premonitions he had about some of his closest friends.

One of them, a friend who traveled with him and his brother Pusha T to Miami, found himself apprehended by police just days after Malice warned him to watch his back.

“I was in Miami and we were listening to the album. One of my friends was there and we're listening to “Doorman” and out of nowhere I stopped in my tracks and looked at him and said, “Are you alright?”

And he said, 'Yeah I'm good.'

And I said, 'I don't wanna hear about you in jail because it would break my heart.'

And he froze up, I still see the look on his face. He was so puzzled by me saying that and I was too. I was thinking why did even say that to him?

Well the next day I go home and they can't get on the plane because the people are there waiting on him at the airport.”

One of the most vivid of his premonitions however was of his former manager Anthony "Geezy” Gonzalez who was sentenced to 32 years in prison for running a $10 million drug trafficking ring.

According to Malice he tried to warn Geezy to slow down, but he refused and caught the infamous charge that still separates him from his family today.

“My manager; I told him. I told him ALL the time. ‘It's getting wild, it's looking stupid, it even feels stupid, everything is just crazy!' And he was like, 'Yeah I know', agreeing with me---just agreeing with me to shut me up.

Another one of my homies was always outrunning the police, he and my manager were in D.C. and they called me. And he's telling me that [name omitted] just outran the police.

So I said put him on the phone and I said,

'You need a beating, you don't think there's enough going on?...You don't have to do EVERYTHING. It's enough going on!'

Lo and behold, Push and I leave from Miami and we get home, we find out that they tried to get home but were not advised to get on the plane by the accountant and ended up turning themselves in.

It was all of our friends and entourage that's always been with us. I was on it before this thing went down, it was a little crazy.”

While Malice wants fans to learn from his friend's mistakes, this passionate Christian refutes claims that he's using the book to preach to his followers.

Instead Malice says he just wants people to listen to his story and see how their life can change.

“I make no bones about me being a Christian and my focus is not to try and make anyone believe what I believe or pattern after me. All I'm saying and all I'm telling everybody that is a fan of Malice is that this story happened and this is my story. And I have to tell MY story. What you do with it is your business. But when I tell you my story and what happened to me, I don't see how you can not be changed. “

Be on the lookout for HipHopWired's full audio with this truth teller where he speaks on the status of another Clipse album, shares more on his faith and gives his thoughts on The President Of The United States.

While his brother Pusha T continues running with Kanye and his G.O.O.D. Music family, Malice of The Clipse is moving forward with plans to release a book.

Malice has been posting videos on his MadeMyLifeChange blog with excerpts from his upcoming tome complete with Bible verses and messages he hopes will impact today's youth.

Speaking on plans for his book and blog, ½ of the Clipse writes,

“Maliceoftheclipse.com was started when long time friend Shomi Patwary and I had a discussion on how jaded we had become with our contribution to hip-hop. We decided to tap into other avenues and take a different approach, exploring a more spiritual and thought provoking aspect.

I'm proud of this page because like I said in Blog # 1 it's geared towards the youth (25 and younger). But even if you're 40 still acting like you're 25 may you be inspired as well. I want to let the youth know that it's okay to be unique and original. While it's so very easy to conform to our surroundings, I'm going to suggest you boldly make your mark.”

Malice's book is entitled 'Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked,' and is said to give a behind the scenes look into The Clipse' life.
