Louis Farrakhan's Grandson Is A Draft Prospect

Mustapha Farrakhan Jr., a senior shooting guard from the University of Virginia is a regular ball player hoping his name gets called next week at the NBA draft.

Off the court, Mustapha's last name rings bells, and as the grandson of Minister Louis Farrakhan, the young athlete said his name comes with a responsibility to "be a good role model."

The Daily News reports that the name also carries a stigma. The newspaper wrote, "His grandfather is a polarizing figure who has spoken out against whites, homosexuals and Jews."

The shooting guard averaged 13.5 points per game in his senior season but all the mock drafts that exist do not include Mustapha's name. He recently visited New York for his fourth pre-draft workout with a mission to gain interest from one of the teams in the league.

Instead of focusing on the questions about his lineage and relatives, the devout Muslim baller is improving his jumpshot.

"At this point, I don't see [becoming a minister] at all," said Farrakhan, who graduated from Virginia with a sociology degree. "I really enjoy basketball, I really enjoy sports, so that's what I'm concentrating on."

November 5 was a tragic day as Major Nidal Hasan opened fire on unarmed soldiers at Fort Hood. The end result left 13 dead along with more than two dozen injured.

As family members, military personnel, civilian employees and others within the community are continuing to rise back after such an event, rapper Chamillionaire will be assisting as he will be taking part in the Fort Hood Community Strong.

Taking place at the Hood Stadium on December 11 from 1:00p.m. to 7:00p.m, the rapper will be accompanied by the likes of Nick Jonas, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band and more. The event will be cost-free as it will feature free carnival rides, food, games and entertainment.

Chamillionaire has continued to show his support for the soldiers of the United States as he is also involved with the USO, United Service Organization, which is a non-profit whose purpose is to support the troops and create outlets for entertainment for troops that are serving abroad.

Recognizing the sacrifice being made by the troops and their families, the USO also offers programs and other services that aim to boost morale, welfare, and the social needs. Their services are provided to roughly 1.4 million active duty service members and 1.2 million Nation Guard and Reserves, according to their Web Site at 111.uso.org.

Major Hasan was charged last month with 13 counts of premeditated murder. According to Hasan, who was an Army psychiatrist, made claims that the war America was waging with Afghanistan and Iraq was a type of cloak and that the true war was against Muslim.

“I'm a Muslim and I believe 100% Islam and there's a lot of things that got to happen before the Day of Judgment comes. I don't see it [all] happening in two years.”

When 1999 was coming to a close, many citizens were spooked about the following year which was penned as the Y2K problem.

Many were under the belief that when the clock brought in the new day, there would be utter chaos as computer technology would malfunction and cause databases to crash which would essentially leave many people without necessary documentation/identity.

A greater scare was the fact that some were under the belief that the world would shut down and revert back to its primitive stages and everyone would have to start again from scratch.

The ball dropped to bring in 2000, and not one thing, out of the ordinary, went wrong.

As 2009 comes to a close, another prophecy comes about as the Mayan calendar marks December 21, 2012 as the Day of Judgment. This day would basically mark the end, as the Earth would be destroyed or cleansed of those that do wrong and those that have a belief in God will reside with him above in His Kingdom.

Whether there is validity to the prediction or not, many faces are starting to feel likes its 1999 as they ponder the question, “What if this is the end?”

Freeway and Jakk Frost, both Muslim, recently showed up to speak with DJ Kay Slay where the same question was presented to Freeway to gain his perspective.

“Prophet Isa (Jesus) has to come back and he's gonna come back and establish Islam and all that and I can't see that happening that quick. Then after that, there's some things that happen after that too before the Day of Judgment.”

Freezer also reflected on where he was back in 99 at the time when everyone was afraid of an electronic global shutdown.

“99-2000 I was in jail like, “Aw, sh*it, I'ma be locked in this mother*cka, all the electricity gonna cut off.”

Artists such as Mase and Kanye West haven't shied away from being more vocal as it pertains to religion whether it be through church or within the music.

“A lot of people are starting to get religious, but that's good. That's the direction people need to go to because religion is important.”

Free was also able to address the situation regarding Busta Rhymes and the Arabic prayer for his single “Arab Money."

“It's certain things you can and can't do. Busta probably didn't even know, but like that's one thing you can't do. You can't have no Islamic prayer inside of a song because people are going to be playing the songs in the clubs and everything where the prayer shouldn't be recited. It's like a fine line that you have to walk and it's hard to do. Some people can't do it. I have a problem doing it myself.”

With 2010 barely two months away, time is essentially slipping away if the calendar has any truth to it. What would you do if you only had two more years to live?

Noor Faleh Almaleki is recuperating at an Arizona hospital after being viciously assaulted by her own father.

The 20-year-old student was walking in a parking lot with close friend, 43-year-old Amal Edan, when her father ran both of them over with is Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The reason for this travesty? Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, believed that his daughter had become “too ‘Westernized,” also noting that she was not living according to “traditional Iraqi values.”

About one year ago Noor was scheduled to be married against her will in an arranged ceremony. She objected to the ritual, and left home, moving in boyfriend and his mother.

This attack undoubtedly adds more stains to the image of Islam, and those whom practice its teaching, with each “honor killing” attack giving mainstream media outlets more opportunities to slander a beautiful religion.

“It's reprehensible,” said Ibrahim Ramey of the Muslim American Society. “It's wrong.”

The young Almaleki suffered horrendous injuries during the attack and is currently listed in “life-threatening” condition. Hassan Almaleki was last seen at the crime scene and has yet to be apprehended.

He was last seen in a grey or silver Jeep Cherokee (2000) with Arizona license plate ADS-9192.
