Progressive-minded Americans celebrated the historic election of the first African-American President of the United State in Barack Obama as the moment that America was becoming a theoretical “post-racial” society where race, discrimination and prejudice were things of the past. However, recent events—even Jay-Z has caught it—have proven otherwise. Hip-Hop Wired takes a look at 10 examples why a “post-racial America” is nothing more than a mythical fallacy.

The NYPD is already in hot water over accusations of discrimination, and corruption, and now a video has surfaced that will surely brighten their negative spotlight. A black police officer was taped telling unleashing a vulgar rant aimed at two men who were illegally parked in the Kensington section of Brooklyn.

On the videotape—obtained by the increasingly racist New York Post—shows the officer flexing his muscle with a bunch of disrespectful comments. “You guys are hustling or whatever, I ain't got no problem with that. Listen . . . do your thing. But when I come around and I speak, you f**king listen.

“I have the long d**k. You don't. Your pretty face — I like it very much. My d**k will go in your mouth and come out your ear. Don't f**k with me. All right?” He also told the me n that he has “no home,” “no life,” and “no kids,” and therefore (we assume) has nothing to lose.

It'll be interesting to see how the NYPD will distance themselves from this one.

With the arrest of notoriously elusive and influential drug dealer James Corley, the Queens-based “Supreme Team” street gang saw one of the final beams of its foundation tumble after the 51-year-old was charged on Thursday (May 18) with criminal sale of a controlled substance and other related drug charges.

NYPD commissioner Raymond Kelly and Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that Corley was finally nabbed after a 15-month wiretap and surveillance operation although his savvy kept the drug supplier on the streets since the 1980. Corley supplied cocaine to another Queens street gang, the South Side Bloods, and other bit players who grossed about $15,000 a week. Forty-four other members of Corley's joint operation with Bloods and Supreme Team were also slapped with charges.

After realizing his phones were being tapped, Corley wisely avoided communication with the outside as members of his own organization weren't even aware of his location at times. NYPD's Detective David Leonardi put the case together, noting in the charges that the gangs used “Supreme Mathematics” and the “Supreme Alphabet,” the language system used by members of the Nation of Islam offshoot group Nation Of Gods and Earths (also known as “Five Percenters”). Leonardi was able to decipher the coded language, and the phone taps yielded news on illegal guns and a possible murder in South Carolina.

The Supreme Team came to prominence under the leadership Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, now serving life without parole after a 2007 conviction. McGriff was closely aligned to fellow Queens native Irv “Gotti” Lorenzo and reportedly poured money into Gotti's Murder, Inc. music operation. The Supreme Team was the bane of the NYPD since the late 80s, especially after the 1988 shooting of police officer Edward Byrne.

The NYPD has announced changes to its “stop-and-frisk” policy. The police force continues to come under fire for racial profiling, prompting Commissioner Raymond Kelly to announce the implementation of adjustments to the controversial tactics carried out by the department.

Kelly revealed the changes Thursday (May 17), and outlined a new course of action which he sent to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. According to Kelly the goal of implementing the changes is to instill more confidence in the department. In 2011, NYPD officers pulled over more than 630,000 mostly black and Hispanic men, 50 percent were frisked, and roughly 10 percent were taken into custody. Of course, Kelly's new stance, is a far cry from his reputation for racists practices, including allowing NYPD officials to spy on Muslim students.

Mayor Michael Blooomerg threw his support behind Kelly's decision, but maintained that the old practices were neither racially motivated nor harmful. “Tough enforcement, making sure that we go to neighborhoods where high crime is and we stop the kids who fit the descriptions of perps and just make sure that they're not carrying guns. It's in their interest. It's saving their lives,” he said.

Among the discriminatory actions carried out by members of the NYPD include two high-ranking officers being named in a federal lawsuit in which they are alleged to have encouraging their squad to kill black suspects. In addition to the changes, a “warning system” has been established to identify officers who have received public complaints, precinct heads will be responsible for holding weekly meetings, and over 1, 500 officers will receive increased training to ensure proper implementation of policy and procedures.

The NYPD's credibility just keeps getting worse. Amid numerous allegations of racial profiling, and other shady practices the police force must now deal with the bad publicity from one of their own who was busted for giving inside information to drug traffickers. Devon Daniels, was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Agency Monday (May 14) on multiple charges, and is scheduled to be arraigned in a Brooklyn court later today.

According to officials, Daniels, 30, is accused of illegally accessing the NYPD computer system to shell out confidential information to a drug trafficking organization with ties to both New York City and the Midwest. The DEA, NYPD, and IRS all had investigators tailing Daniels, who was busted after a wire transfer sent from drug distributors in Wichita, Kan. was traced back to his bank account. Denials also used mobile computers inside NYPD squad cars to run license plates, and get registration information which he would text to a drug dealer in Jamaica, Queens named Guy Curtis. Authorities stated that Curtis, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute charges in January, would routinely contact Daniels for favors. "I need u to clap a felon he always carrying a gun," he said on one occasion, according to the federal complaint.

Prior to being taken into custody, the NYPD placed Daniels was put on “un-paid” leave.

A New York man is seeking legal action against the NYPD, in what he accuses was a racially charged wrongful arrest. Kenrick Gray filed a lawsuit in the Brooklyn Federal Court against Officer Michael Dargjati for unlawfully taking him into custody, and bragging that he “fried another ni**er.”

Daragjati has a reputation for getting into trouble, and pleaded guilty to federal civil rights violations charges earlier this year. Meanwhile, Gray has also been named as the plaintiff in a separate pending suit against the department for being pulled over and frisked on two separate occasions in 2010. Gray, was stopped by Daragjati on April 15, and was frisked “in a heavy-handed fashion” before being let go. When the 33-year-old complained about the treatment, Daragjati apprehended him on fake charges, as well as resisting arrested. Phone tapping, uncovered a conversation between Daragjati and an associate in which he says “Another ni**er fried, no big deal,” which will likely damage the defense that he had probable cause to arrest Gray. The FBI is also investigating Daragjati for extortion, stemming from an incident in which he threatened someone whom he believed stole his snow plow.

Gray is seeking unspecified damages for the incident, marking the most recent occasion in which the city will have to foot the bill for bad police behavior. In March, the city settled a $57,500 false arrest suit.

Daragjati's case is the latest in a string of examples of racial discrimination at the hands of the NYPD. As we reported last month, two high-ranking members of the police force are the subject of a federal racial discrimination lawsuit, in which they are believed to have called black suspects “f***ing animal,” among other names. Elsewhere in the city, a black man from Brooklyn was freed after serving more than a year in prison for raping a white woman, despite the fact that she later omitted her claim.

An explosive new deposition exposes claims of racial profiling, and bigotry all at the hands of top NYPD officials. According to testimony released in a federal discrimination lawsuit, high-ranking supervisors of the department's gun unit, treated white suspects more fairly than their black counterparts.

The sworn deposition, taken from the testimony of three members of the firearms suppression unit —one retired first-grade detective, and two current NYPD detectives— details how Capt. James Coan and Lt. Daniel Davin called accused black criminals "f---ing animals," among other epithets.

Davin is accused of routinely using the N-word , making for a hostile environment for black detectives, as well as suspected minority criminals involved in gun trafficking. One detective also testified that Davin encouraged his team to kill black criminals, if necessary. "If you have to shoot a n---er, do what you gotta do," recounted Detective Al Hawkins.

For his part, Coan instructed his team on the best ways to kill. "You make sure if you have to shoot, you shoot them in the head. That way there's one story." Not surprisingly Coan denied the allegations, but his reputation precedes him. Over the last 20 years, the NYPD vet has been involved in five shootings, two of which were fatal. He also admitted to killing a pit bull, but joked that the dog failed to take legal action.

Police brutality in the black community is nothing news, but given the heightened sensitivity surrounding the shooting of Trayvon Martin, more stories of racial profiling continue to be unearthed. In March, Tyler Perry revealed that he was pulled over for being black, while leaving his studio in Atlanta, but did not seek a lawsuit. Similarly, prosecutors in White Plains, N.Y. announced the opening of an investigation into the shooting death of Kenneth Chamberlin, a 68-year-old veteran that was gunned down in his apartment by police officers, after allegedly attacking them with a hatchet and a knife

In the case of Davin and Coan, this isn't the first time that their behavior has been called into question. Last month the duo testified in a Brooklyn Federal Court, regarding a discrimination suit brought on by Detective Debra Lawson, who claimed that minority members of the police force were intentionally barred from receiving promotions and good assignments.

Both Davin and Coan were allowed to keep their jobs, but are now working different positions.

The tragic 2006 shooting death of Sean Bell at the hands of New York police became a refreshed memory for some city residents, especially in light of the recent Trayvon Martin case. Just weeks after being released by NYPD commissioner Raymond Kelly, undercover detective Gescard Isnora has come forward in a somewhat defiant stance saying he feels just slight remorse for his hand in the killing of Bell.

In an exclusive interview with NBC New York, the former detective asserted that his actions on that fateful November night were part of his duties as a police officer. "I was fed to the wolves if, you know, you wanna use that," said Isnora regarding his firing. "That's exactly what the Commissioner and the Mayor did."

Isnora maintains that while part of an undercover operation at a Queens strip club under suspicion of running a prostitution ring, he and other officers witnessed Bell having an argument with a rival when they claim a man in Bell's group mentioned grabbing a gun. In an ensuing fracas, Isnora claims he saw one of Bell's companions go for a gun which prompted him and the other officers to fire the rain of bullets into the car Bell was driving.

After a department investigation following years of protests, it was determined that the Isnora and the others acted improperly in their shooting of the unarmed Bell. Still, Isnora feels betrayed by the NYPD and he maintains that he did what was necessary at the time. "I'm not looking back, no apologies, no regrets," Isnora continued. "I came to grips with what I did.”

Isnora intends to file action in order to regain his position with the force.

The shooting case of 18-year-old Ramarley Graham has taken a new turn after video was released showing NYPD officers kicking down the door of the home of Graham's grandmother in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. The video, which Hip-Hop Wired warns is intense, shows Graham entering his home calmly last Thursday with NYPD officers rushing the door behind and then proceeding to kick the door down.

Graham's family, who assert that the officers acted out of line in trying to apprehend the teen, released the footage, which was aired by local New York station WPIX. Reporters from the station visited the area and home of Graham, where neighbors say the police never once identified themselves and were threatening to residents. The landlord to the Graham residence, Paulette Minzie, said police shoved their weapons in her face and searched her home for weapons. The officers had no search warrant.

Since Thursday, NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly named 30-year old officer Richard Haste as the shooter in the case, saying that Haste shouted to Graham to show his hands and offer up a gun before shooting the teen in the chest inside a bathroom in the home. Kelly has placed Haste, a three-year veteran, and Sgt. Scott Morris, also present on the scene, on desk duty pending investigation.

Rev. Al Sharpton is helping to raise funds for Graham's funeral and also to help assist helping the teen's grandfather arrive to the States from Jamaica for the service. Sharpton spoke openly of the case over the weekend.

“Why would you break in a house and shoot a young man and kill him?" Rev. Al Sharpton said on Saturday. "You cannot get to a conclusion without starting with the premise. The premise is wrong. They had no business breaking in the house.”

If you thought you had a hard time going through airports, just wait a few months if you're trying to walk the streets of New York. The NYPD plans to start using technology that can detect people carrying guns on their person.

The technology, similar to infrared imaging , includes a mechanism that can detect a natural energy, known as terahertz radiation, that emits from a person's body. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced details about the new search method and stated,

“This technology has shown a great deal of promise as a way of detecting weapons without a physical search."

The new technology can only be used three to four feet away. Kelly told the New York Daily News that the technology was part of the department's continuing efforts to curb illegal guns off the street as he addressed the Police Foundation at the Regency Hotel on Park Ave. He said cops hope to install the heat-seeking devices on police vehicles in the near future. There are some questions about the device though as many feel unwarranted stops will be made if the device picks up other devices, like iPods, that it may perceive to be a weapon.

What are your thoughts? Is this an invasion of privacy or will it really keep the streets safe???
