Kanye West and Jay-Z Settle Lawsuit With Syl Johnson

Kanye West and Jay-Z seem to have brought a little bit more "joy" to Syl Johnson after settling out of court on copyright infringement claims. Syl Johnson's and The Numero Group's classic song "Different Strokes," which has been sampled over 50 times (at least) throughout music history, was illegally sampled on the Watch The Throne song, "The Joy." According to TMZ, legal documents filed in Illinois last week show the lawsuit was dismissed as a result of both sides reaching a settlement. Johnson in the past has previously and successfully sued Michael Jackson, Cypress Hill, and Jefferson Airplane for similar claims in the past. Run DMC, J Dilla, The Beastie Boys, Boogie Down Productions and EPMD are only a few of the 50 Hip-Hop songs that have sampled "Different Strokes," and Johnson has gotten paid big bucks every single time.

Jay-Z & Kanye West's “Otis” Maybach Sold For $60K [PHOTOS]

Someone came up on a slightly used Maybach for a bargain price. The Maybach 57 that was torn apart and put back together for Jay-Z and Kanye West's Spike Jonze directed "Otis" video sold at auction for $60,000 on March 8th. It took all of five minutes to sell the customized whip, reports En Starz.

The reason why the car went for a relatively dirt cheap price (less than the $100K to $150K it hoped to bring) is because the auctioneer, Phillips de Pury, stressed that although the sticker price is $350,000, this Maybach was now more art than auto, so prospective buyers should not have expected to drive it off the lot. A portion of the proceeds will go to Save The Children, a charity that aides starving children in Africa.

"The funds raised from auctioning off the 'Otis' car are greatly needed to help sustain families over the next several months. We are grateful to JAY Z and Kanye West for offering up pop culture history to do good for children in Africa.” said, Carolyn Miles, President and CEO, Save the Children, via a press statement. As part of an auction for Phillips de Pury & Company, the 2004 Maybach is expected to reach bids of $100,000 to $150,000 with part of the proceeds going to the Save The Children charity. But Toronto and October's very own gets more than his fair share of love in America and in his own city where the interview with Complex magazine takes place.

The photo shoot was shut down by Drizzy so that he could have the guys he believes in, Hyghly Alleyne & Lamar Taylor who did videos for "Headlines" and "Marvin's Room" take over.

The in-depth interview sheds light on Drake's meaning behind "catching a body," his fear of dying before accomplishing goals, his "experience shower" he's having installed and the quiet cold war between Kanye and Jay-Z.

“Rapping is about being young and doing your thing and being fly. I'm sure people took it that way and that's good, man. That's great.

Wake the f**k up. I hope it makes you go harder. I hope it makes you get mad at me and write a song with me in mind. I hope Kanye's verse on ‘Otis' was with that in mind. Everyone tried to tell me ‘Oh Jay is going at you.' I don't hear it, but I hope it was man, that song is f**king incredible.

Making each other go harder, that's what this $**t is about.”

Jay-Z and Kanye West have released their video for "Otis" off their Watch The Throne album.

In it we see The Throne cut the top off a Maybach and take a group of models on a wild ride.

Directed by Spike Jonze, the video doesn't come without a message, the featured vehicle will be put up for auction with proceeds donated towards the drought in Somalia.

Jay-Z and Kanye's "Watch The Throne" tour kicks off Saturday, October 29 in Atlanta.

DMX Talks Drugs and Dog Fighting

In one of the first interviews DMX has had since his release from prison last month, Dark Man X sat down with ABC15 and talked candidly about his drug addiction, animal cruelty charges and his legacy as a rap artist.

ABC15 reported:

"I'm not the person the media portrays me to be," he told ABC15 in an exclusive interview.

In the hip hop world, DMX is an influential rap artist and one of the best-selling rappers of all time.

"There will never be another me, never," smiled DMX. "To this date I have records that have yet to be broken."
