4-Year-Old Dies After Drowning In Manure Pit

A family in Lancaster Pennsylvania is mourning the loss of a 4-year-old, after police state that he drowned in a pit of manure on their family farm.

According to published reports,  4-year-old Josiah Martin was playing with his siblings when they lost sight of the toddler.

After searching for the boy, his family found him face down in a partially frozen 8-foot pit of manure.

Authorities are unclear on how the child managed to get near the pit that was surrounded by an chain link fence that is a reported 42 feet in diameter.

New Holland Police Officer Troy Deshong states that the family says he may have been trying to retrieve a dog.

A Pennsylvania man was arrested after punching am 8-year-old in the mouth.

According to published reports 18-year-old Jorge Alvarado-Barbosa was working in the cafeteria when he allegedly punched a third grader during a physical altercation on the grounds of Chester Community Charter School.

Police state that Barbosa was caught on tape outside the school grabbing the 8-year-old from behind to restrain him, it was off camera that authorities say that Barbosa struck the child in the mouth.

"Such behavior by teachers or employees is wholly unacceptable at Chester Community Charter School, no matter the severity," Chester Community Charter School CEO Steven E. Lee wrote in an e-mail.

"In all probability, he will be terminated within 24 hours."

Barbosa was arrested on charges of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment; the child's father stated that Barbosa was out of line for striking his child.

"I don't understand what would register in his mind and make him think its okay," the boy's father said. "But that's the nature of people today."

A fight erupted last Friday night at a high school in Pennsylvania which concluded the game and led to the arrest of five people.

Authorities stated that the fight broke out at half time and was ignited when a girl, from the visiting school, punched a girl from the home team of Monessen High.

Following the punch, more joined and dozens spilled into the hallway for the brawl.  In an attempt to restore order, the usage of a stun gun on a student was implemented.

Now with the footage, police are looking to file additional charges for disorderly conduct.

Oddly enough, the game actually continued.  Granted, there wasn't  anyone to cheer the game on but the show must always go on.

35-year-old dog groomer Holly Crawford's lawyers contend that she wasn't trying to hurt the cats and used sterilized needles to perform the procedures.

The pierced felines were discovered after police got a tip about the woman selling the cats on EBay.

A woman pretending to buy a cat from Crawford says she asked her how the procedure was done.

Crawford gleefully told her that she used a 14-gauge-needle for the piercings; a needle commonly used on cows because their skin is so thick, and also said that she put rubber bands on the tail of kittens to stop blood flow so their tails would fall off.

Her trial began yesterday with testimony from a veterinarian that described the cats as “maimed” and “disfigured.”

The indictments, handed out by a federal grand jury last week, have racked up to three and include federal hate crime charges, along with conspiracy, extortion charges, obstruction of justice and official conduct, according to authorities.

Shenandoah Police Chief Matthew Nestor, Lt. William Moyer and Officer Jason Hayes have all been charged by federal authorities with conspiring to obstruct justice.

Taking place back in July 2008 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Ramirez was beaten and hospitalized where he laid in a coma on life support before dying two days later.

Moyer has also been charged with witness and evidence tampering and lying to the FBI, according to authorities.  He faces five additional years, along with the other charges, for his false statements.

There have been allegations from the prosecutors that Moyer and Hayes aided in creating a story for the teens, along with Hayes giving them a ride home from the scene of the crime.

Nestor and Capt. Jamie Gennarini have allegations against them that they conspired cash payouts from illegal gambling operations with the area of Shenandoah.

Each officer is facing a sentence of 20 years in prison on obstruction charges and five years for conspiring to obstruct justice.

“The power granted to law enforcement officers does not place them above the law,” Thomas E. Perez, assistant U.S. Attorney General said.

Along with the officers, teens Derrick Donchak and Brandon Piekarsky are both being charged with a hate crime for the fatal beating of Ramirez while shouting racial slurs at him, according to prosecutors.

They have been acquitted of aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation along with other charges tied in with the death of Ramirez.

If found guilty, Donchak and Piekarsky will face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Some of the students involved in the attack have faced the wrath of America's school system and have since been sent to public institutions that specialize in alternative educational methods, yet, that is not enough for these teens.

More than 50 students are actively protesting the Philadelphia school district by boycotting all classes and social events hosted by the educational system, a move made because they felt that their plight was not being taken seriously by the powers that be.

Now the beleaguered learners have the backing of several influential figures in city law enforcement as well as leader with Philly's Asian community, all of which are calling for broader security measures to be taken to make sure violence does not remain an issue in local public schools.

“We've been telling them if you work with the school district and be patient, things will turn around and this happened last week?,” questioned John Chin of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation. “What am I going to tell the students today?”

There has not been any official evidence that says whether the attacks against the students were racially motivated.

While speaking at a town hall meeting on job creation in Allentown, Pennsylvania,  President Obama was asked to consider legalizing several nonviolent crimes such as gambling, prostitution, and minor drug violations, in order to stimulate the economy and to create jobs.

Designed to combat the health devouring monster known as obesity, which is especially prevalent within the Black community, faculty and staff at the Philadelphia Historically Black College have instituted a program on campus  aimed to force students to shed pounds at the risk of not being able to graduate when the time comes to do so.

"We know we're in the midst of an obesity epidemic," explained chairman of Lincoln's department of health, physical education and recreation, James L. DeBoy. "We have an obligation to address this head on, knowing full well there's going to be some fallout."

Though obviously created in good spirit, the move comes as a rude awakening for many clinically obese students at the campus, of which, many are in the midst of their senior year.

Most argue that the mandate only singles out bigger students, whereas, if it were actually meant to increase the health awareness of students on campus by promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, all students would be involved, not just the ones that appear to be fat or in need of a “change.”

According to clinical standards, a normal body mass index ranges from 18.5 to 24.9 with anyone ranging above those figures considered medically obese. Lincoln Students that reside among that range are required to successfully take “Fitness for Life,” which can be classified as a glorified gym class that meets for three hours a week.

As of the start of Fall semester, 16% of Lincoln's senior class has not had their BMI taken or attempted to complete the course.

The couple was shocked to find the charred remains of what was once a staple in the old south upon their doorstep.

Residing in a predominately white neighborhood, the Walbecks have been a staple with the community for many years, often adopting imperiled children as a means to spread to spread their own kind of love. This heinous mental assault marks the first time that the couple has been targeted for a hate crime.

The latest addition to the Walbeck family, Shaq, is a linebacker and fullback for local United High School; he is the family's first Black child.
