Although Q-Tip has flirted with African drum samples and loops since the early inception of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest, but the New York City native has discovered an even deeper connection to the great continent of Africa. Sitting down with OkayAfrica in their latest "The Roots of" series, the eternally youthful Abstract Poetic playfully lobbed verbal jabs at the cameras while swabbing the inside of his cheek to collect DNA to be tested by genealogy experts African Ancestry.

Revealing his mother's Alabama roots and his father's West Indian heritage during the clip, Q-Tip seemed eager to learn more about his lineage. “I really want to know about where my people come from because I feel like it just answers a lot of questions for me,” shared Tip. “You know, just a bunch of generational, psychological things that could be answered as well. It's a lot of intrigue for me.”

Stating that he's never been to Africa, Tip rattled off a few guesses as to where his maternal roots stem from. However, the moment of truth revealed that he was a bit off with his geography. After a two month process, Q-Tip sat with Gina Paige of African Ancestry for the big reveal—once again stating his furthest knowledge of his roots were in Alabama. Tip learned his roots are connected with the Jola tribe—no pun intended—in the West African country of Guinea-Bissau.

Q-Tip was further surprised after Paige introduced the rapper to Sana Ndiaye, a native from his newly discovered homeland that has mastered the Jola tribe's banjo-like instrument, the akonting.

Could Q-Tip rename his crew A Tribe Called Jola in the near future?

During a recent interview with Street Disciplez Radio, Cons admitted while he has ended his beef with Kanye, he still has some animosity towards Q-Tip.

In the beginning, Cons was hesitant to speak on Q-Tip, saying:

"We just gotta do next question with that," Next question. I'm only here to talk about positive things...I'm making a valiant effort to move in a positive direction. I had a couple public discrepancies with a few folks that I had relationships with in the past. I just think it's more healthy at this point to stay away from certain questions because I do have a blackout switch. So, when you start saying today's secret words like certain peoples' names, that's where I just have to stop you."

However, he later began to talk about how his relationship helped Q-Tip get his production on Kanye and Jay's "Watch The Throne Album."

"Q-Tip knows what time is it with me. He knows I been thorough from the day he brought me around his situation. I been thorough and ain't nothing change about me. And I'm a positive energy person. That's why Q-Tip has three records on Watch the Throne. And you can tweet that. Tweet that and say I said it."

Consequence Speaks About Q-Tip Situation New Mixtape And More

Street Disciplez Radio talked with former G.O.O.D Music emcee Consequence, who is still claiming that he's one of the top lyrical cats in the game.

Cons didn't want to get into his problems with Q-Tip but he did say that he's the reason his cousin had something to do with Watch The Throne.

He also stated that he only squashed beef with Kanye West and everyone else (Pusha T) can still get it.

Consequence goes from preaching positivity to talking about his handskills if someone steps to him. Which Consequence do you believe?

Consequence Says Pusha Can't See Him In A Battle, Says It'll Take Jay-Z To Squash Beef, Debuts New Song

Pusha T said no one is really checking for Consequence's music, and now Cons has fired back. The self-proclaimed "most talked about commodity in hip-hop" cites his production and writing credit on Beyonce's new album as proof that someone is checking for him.

"I'm probably the best pure lyricist in hip-hop and in music right now," stated Consequence in a phone interview with 107.5.

The former G.O.O.D Music member claims that Pusha T is just a worker that can't compete lyrically and that is why Ye never spoke to the Clipse rapper about the issue with Cons.

This beef will only get settled by Jay-Z for some odd reason. Consequence may feel like that is the only individual that can talk sense into him or maybe he knows that will never happen.

Consequence says he is still a brother of Yeezy along with GLC, Rhymefest and Really Doe.

Oh yeah, he also debuted a new song that is a remake of "Straighten It Out," where he claims hip-hop will never be the same until he gets things right with Kanye and Q-tip. Is he delusional? Listen to the interview and record.

Q-Tip Explains Beef With Michael Rapaport, Voices Support For ATCQ Documentary

Michael Rapaport said he was done trying to make Q-Tip happy about his Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest documentary which hits theaters tomorrow.

Tip publicly had beef with the project and Mike catered to him, but recently the film's director told the press that the Tribe front man would "come around."

And it seems that has happened as Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad spoke to Angie Martinez on Hot 97FM and stated they got the creative control they were after.

“If we hadn't been supportive of the film, it wouldn't be out. When I said that I wasn't in support of it on Twitter, the director needed to respect the subject's few requests that they had about the film artistically, an editing thing,” Q-Tip said.

“Like I said before on MTV, it was more like a flare to get his attention, like, ‘Hello?' because we were trying to get his attention. So we did it and then two days later, they were on a plane and came and worked on the edit.”

Even though the movie was changed to the suit the subjects, Mr. Rapaport's statements in The Daily News rubbed Tip the wrong way.

“It was weird and lowbrow. We kinda been dealing with a lot of that stuff from him. They weren't trying to really honor us as producers and we had some issues behind the scenes, in terms of the contracts and all of that stuff."

The "Vivrant Thing" rapper doesn't feel like Michael Rapaport has any ill will intended so maybe we will see them work it out and push the film together. Or maybe this was a promotional tool.

Tip explained, “I think Mike is not a bad person at his core. It's just he's excited about it, it's a passionate project, he's a passionate dude. It's his first outing as a director, so there's some things."

Michael Rapaport 'Completely Done' Appeasing Q-Tip After Rapper Disses Documentary

Ok so maybe Michael Rapaport should get the nod from the entire group before he decides to put their lives on the screen but Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest has been a hit so far despite Q-Tip's opposition to the film.

The director is fed up with trying to make nice with the group's lead man. "I'm not reaching out to him anymore about this," Rapaport says.

Tip wanted some scenes deleted and hinted that the film should be going straight to DVD.

"Spike Lee would have told A Tribe Called Quest to kiss his f-ing ass and take a f-ing walk," said Michael. "I appeased them, worked with them, tried to hear their point of view on things."

Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White have gotten behind the film and appeared together at the L.A. Film Festival, where the picture won the Audience Award for Best Documentary.

Q-Tip may come around but apparently he's pissed off Rapaport who feels slighted since the documentary was coming from a "good place."

"You're not Jay-Z, you're not Kanye West," Rapaport says.
