The RZA stopped by Chelsea Lately and explains the meaning "Bong Bong," talks about his role in the new season of Showtime's Californication, a possible Wu-Tang tour, and other interesting anecdotes. But host Chelsea Handler plays herself when she acts shocked that RZA and the Wu play chess when on the tour bus. Maybe she was just joking, but it was still suspect. Do some research next time.

Wu Tang's The RZA is continuing to rack up movie roles, this time in a controversial film by Quentin Tarantino.
As previously reported Will Smith and Idris Elba were said to be battling it out for the lead role in 'Django Unchained' that ultimately went to Jamie Foxx.

RZA will play Thaddeus, "a violent slave working on a Mississippi plantation."

Django unchained tells the story of a “freed slave who seeks to reunite with his slave wife, a journey which will see him team up with a German bounty hunter to take down an evil plantation owner.”

The film, which begins production in the fall, also may include Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz in key roles.

This Sunday VH1 will air Planet Rock, a documentary executive produced by rappers Ice-T. Snoop Dogg, RZA, Raekwon, Too Short and others, which relates the story between the crack generation and Hip-Hop.

The show is based on first-person accounts of many dealers-turned-rappers and also focuses on how crack changed America culturally, socially and politically.

The show also throws Rick Ross under the bus for jacking Freeway Ricky Ross' name, but we'll save that part for Sunday.

The RZA is the latest celebrity featured in an issue of V Magazine now that he's been nominated for their 'Heroes' issue by his good friend and collaborator Kanye West.

In the publication's fall issue, the Wu-Tang veteran reflects on his rap career as requested by Kanye who suggested him for the feature.

He tells V how he got his start working with The GZA who he met in 1976.

We were kids just doin' it. I was rapping over anything…Dr. Seuss, Mother Goose, anything[...] When I came into the biz, I wanted to f*ck up the game. I thought that other than some music from the '60s and '70s, everything was bullsh*t. Rappers had nothing to say. R&B made me carsick. I never strived for dollar, but my ego was super-duper.”

When we first heard about Mos Def's plans to retire his current moniker for a new name, Yasiin, it got us thinking.

Of course, Mos isn't the first emcee to change his name and he sure won't be the last.

We started putting together a list, although our good friends over at The Rap Up beat us to the post.

So, we decided to piggyback off their list and add a few names of our own.

According to RZA, Ye reached out to him while on set of actor Russell Crowe's upcoming Man With The Iron Fists film.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, RZA recalled the scenario by saying:

"Kanye asked me to send tracks while they were in Australia," RZA revealed in an interview. "I just thought I would send some sh*t that would be rugged. I know they can find the poppy, hip-hop places, but I wanted to send them some real edgy sh*t. Apparently they thought they were great - Kanye said, 'Send some more of that Wu sh*t!' 

In the past, when Jay-Z did Best of Both Worlds with R. Kelly, I thought it was a great album but the campaign went south because of personalities. With this project, it's the best of many worlds. These two guys have a great chemistry and a great relationship. I'm excited."

This project is Executive Produced by RZA, and has a throw-back sound is inspired by classic soul and kung fu imagery.

It features raw tracks by RZA together with members of the Brooklyn, NY-based band The Revelations.

Together, they provide a solid foundation for the crew's tales of violent New York street life.

The album's first single “Only the Rugged Survive” was produced by Noah Rubin and features RZA.
