US Researchers To Begin Clinical Trials Of Male Birth Control

Men who have issues with getting two or three women pregnant at the same time (*coughs* Lil Wayne *coughs*), may soon has a solution for their problems.

According to reports, an Indian scientist has developed a form of birth control for men, and it is starting to be researched in the United States.

The male contraceptive called Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance, or simply RISUG for short, according to the Huffington Post works when "Men receive an injection of chemicals that form a gel along the vas deferens -- the pathway that transports sperm."

The report continues:

The gel can last for 10 to 15 years. During that time it both reduces the number of sperm making the trip, and also physically disables the ones that do make it safely through the passageway.

According to WIRED, despite battling skeptics at each step, Guha "has prevailed because, in study after study, RISUG has been proven to work 100 percent of the time."

And the icing on the cake? The major concern with vasectomies -- the only form of male contraception other than condoms -- is that they are not always reversible, a risk many men are unwilling to take.

According to the researchers involved, RISUG solves that problem. At any point the man can receive a second injection that dissolves the sperm-blocking gel and reverses the contraceptive.

Read the full report here.

The days of men with three kids by three different babymamas may soon be over.

December 4, 2007 will be remembered as the last day that the world would be touched by Chad Lamont Butler, best known as rapper Pimp C, in his physical form.

Suffering from respiratory depression that was caused by an accidental overdose of prmothazine and codeine cough syrup

As the second anniversary of the rapper's death is approaching, his widow, Chinara Butler, has created an outlet to continue his legacy by launching the first annual Chad “Pimp C” Butler Hip Hop & Health Fair.

December 4 is the date to look out for the event starting at 6 p.m.

Butler has partnered up with the CCM Foundation and the Syphilis Elimination Advisory Committee in order to present such a special occasion to honor the life of her husband.

The purpose of the fair is to raise awareness on HIV along with other STD's which have become an epidemic to the African-American community as years have progressed.

Being held in Port Arthur, Texas, the event will feature the Port Arthur Health Department which will be providing those in attendance with free vaccinations along with other health services.

Those in attendance will also be able to show support as there will be a $5 donation at the door along with a canned food drop box.

Of course Hip Hop will also be in attendance as Bun B, Too Short, Trae the Truth, Jackie-O and others will show their support.

The music world will have yet another chance to hear Pimp's voice once again as he is rumored to be featured on Chamillionaire's upcoming release Venom.

The Female Health Company (FHC) announced that its second-generation FC2 Female Condom® is now available for purchase in the United States. The condom received regulatory approval from the Food and Drug Administration in March as an HIV prevention method.

The new condoms will be 30% cheaper than its predecessor and are supposed to be more user friendly. FHC hopes this help in the fight against the global HIV epidemic and other sexually transmitted diseases.

"America's HIV epidemic isn't going away. In fact, it's getting worse, and African American and Latino women are disproportionately impacted... It's time to provide women in heavily impacted communities with expanded access to affordable women-controlled options, and the female condom becomes that choice. Women will use it if they have it" -- Dazon Dixon Diallo, Founder and President of SisterLove, a grassroots service organization that supports HIV/AIDS prevention and women's reproductive health programs in the Atlanta, Georgia.

According to FHC 7 of the top 10 states ranked by the rate of AIDS cases are in the U.S. South.

The new female condom is synthetic rubber rather than polyurethane, allowing for a less costly manufacturing process and quieter sound that is less likely to disrupt the intimate act. Also there are hopes the new price will make it more attractive to health organizations for distribution.

While the female condom is not popular in the Untied States it is used widely in other countries, especially those countries that are hard hit by the HIV epidemic. It is seen as a tool to empower women and protect them even when their male partners will not.

"We developed the female condom to provide women with access to HIV prevention that they can initiate. We know that women and men practice safer sex when they have access to more prevention methods, and we believe that access to the female condom can help millions of American women negotiate safer sex with their partners." --Mary Ann Leeper, FHC's senior strategic adviser.

For now the second-generation FC2 Female Condom is available to health organizations in the U.S. and will be available at Washington, D.C.-area CVS stores in December. FHC is working on marketing and partnerships to make the product more widely available in stores.
