The 2015 traffic stop and arrest of the late Sandra Bland continue to be shrouded in mystery. Thanks to previously unreleased footage, onlookers now have a glimpse of what Bland saw that day after a recording of her arrest she made went public.
The one flickering ember of justice in the Sandra Bland case has been snuffed after Texas state trooper Brian Encinia managed to evade the lone criminal charge he was facing. Encinia was indicted on a misdemeanor perjury charge, which was dismissed on Wednesday (June 28).
Sandra Bland would have and should have been 30 years old today (Feb. 7). However, an unnecessary traffic stop and arrest culminated in her death in a jail cell in Texas in 2015.
The family of Sandra Bland, the Black woman who died under suspicious circumstances while in jail after a suspect traffic stop, has settled her wrongful death suit. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Waller County Jail will pay the Bland family $1.9 million.
Brian Encinia, the Texas State Trooper who arrested Sandra Bland ahead of her mysterious death in Waller County last July, has been charged with perjury. The grand jury in the case indicted Encinia after observing that he didn’t tell the complete truth around how he handled Bland’s arrest and removal from her car.
