Drake Speaks On Trip To South Africa

Drake briefly spoke about his trip to South Africa, with MTV News. During his visit to the continent, Drizzy performed both old and new hits for the crowd, which left him amazed at their knowledge of his catalog. The interview took place during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, which also happens to be the same event that is currently showing Common's new movie, 'Luv.' No word on what his thoughts on the flick were, but let's all hope, his return to the states means that we'll finally get a response to the Chicago MC.

A Pastor in Cape Town, South Africa is under fire after claiming in his sermons that Jesus was HIV positive.

According to United Kingdom network BBC, in a series of sermons delivered at Luhlaza High School in Khayelitsha Township, Pastor Xola Skosana declared that Jesus Christ had “put himself in the shoes of people who experience brokenness” and had channeled the suffering of his followers by experiencing their same sickness, pain and ostracism.

“Wherever you open the scriptures Jesus puts himself in the shoes of people who experience brokenness,” Skosana told the BBC. “Isaiah 53, for example, clearly paints a picture of Jesus who takes upon himself the infirmities and the brokenness of humanity.”

Although many agree and feel that the teaching is synonymous to that which is taught all over the world, some religious followers are outraged over the connection he has made between Jesus and the unjustifiable situations in which the virus can be contracted.

Despite the controversy surrounding the statements, Skosana states that his intent is to let the infected know that Jesus still loves them and God is not mad at them, regardless of what they did wrong.

“The best gift we can give to people who are HIV-positive is to help de-stigmatize AIDS," Skosana continued. “[We need to] create an environment where they know God is not against them, he's not ashamed of them.”

Regardless of his intentions, fellow religious leaders state that the metaphor endangers believers' understanding of not only Jesus as supreme, but also God, ultimately rendering him part of the problem and not the solution.

One solution that the country of South Africa is considering to fight in the spread of HIV is the implementation of male circumcision.

According to published reports, researchers, South African authorities and medical experts have expressed the possibility of circumcision being able to reduce the spread of HIV by 60 percent.

Experts state that South Africa as a whole is expected to circumcise 2 million boys in the next 5 years.

Africa is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's freedom from prison.

20 years ago on February 20, 1990 Mandela was released from a Cape Town, South Africa prison after being a political prisoner for 27 years.

Mandela served 27 years behind bars of a life sentence for his activism against apartheid, the movement that enforced segregation in the country.

His homeland is commemorating his plight in several ways. In particular through the singing of a song dedicated to him with the words,“Nelson Mandela, there is none like you” and by reenacting the historic walk he made from prison signaling the end of apartheid.

Mandela who is 91-years-old now, did not attend the reenactment but did make a rare appearance at parliament to attend a commemorative speech by South African President Jacob Zuma.

He was also paid tribute to in the summer release of the movie “Invictus” where the country's first Black President was played by Morgan Freeman.

The story of South African sprinter Caster Semenya was long and drawn out filled with questions and speculation.

As previously reported, Semenya left spectators in an uproar after suddenly breaking her own personal record in July and then dusting her competition in Berlin's IAAF World Champions weeks later.

Rumors swirled that the 18-year-old was actually a man in hiding or a person born with both male and female parts and she was therefore subjected to various gender tests to decipher if she was truly a woman.

Now as the buzz surrounding the young runner dies down, the results are in…but we'll never know the answers.

Caster will be allowed to keep her 800-meter gold medal from the IAAF World Championships and luckily for her will be allowed to keep the results of her testing to herself.

Along with the medal and her dignity she'll be allowed to keep the prize money allocated from her win.

The Sports Ministry (Who I had no idea existed) spoke out in the young girl's favor saying,

“Whatever scientific tests were conducted legally within the IAAF regulations will be treated as a confidential matter between patient and doctor.”

Good for her, you go girl!

I think…..

Jay-Z and Beyonce are taking their international celebrity status to new heights and performing for their fans at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Fifa or the Federation Internationale De Football Association asked the Grammy winning artist and her husband to perform for a kick-off concert of the upcoming soccer finals. The Carters will perform separately alongside popular African artists and The Black Eyed Peas. The performances are being used to stir up excitement among fans, sponsors and broadcasters in the countdown to the opening game. The event will take place at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Africa June 10, 2010.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to "20 Centres for 2010", the Official Campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The goal of the program is to build community centers in Africa offering education and healthcare services as well as football training to disadvantaged communities.

Until then Beyonce is traveling to Dubai next month to perform with legendary rock band, Aerosmith. Their performances will be part of the Formula One race in Abu Dhab and serve as the openers and closers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.
