While onstage as a presenter at the 2023 Tony Awards last night, actress Denée Benton called Florida Governor Ron DeSantis a "Grand Wizard", ripping him because of his policies against Black people and other people of color along with the LGBTQ community. Representatives for the 2024 presidential candidate had no immediate comment.
David Alan Grier gave an emotional and jubilant speech after his win at the 74th Annual Tony Awards that began with joking with the host, six-time award winner Audra McDonald at the beginning of the evening.
However, as the evening concluded, the controversial Broadway production failed to win even one award despite all the hype and chatter around it.
