Former Roc La Familia artist Tru Life pleaded guilty to gang assault for the 2009 fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Christopher Guerrero.

Robert Rosado, which is Tru's government name, and his brother Marcus Rosado were sentenced to eight and ten years respectively.

The family of the victim is not in agreement with the jail time.

"We will never be able to erase the image of him trying to fight off his attackers with his bare hands while daggers were thrust upon him," Guerrero's brother, Jason Ramirez said during sentencing in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Ramirez commented that there are drug dealers that receive more time in prison than his brother's murderers.

Tru Life's eight-year bid is due to the fact that his brother actually did the stabbing.

The 34-year-old rapper's lawyer, Alan Abramson released a statement that read, “Robert is extremely saddened by what happened.”

Flashback to the year 2005 and Robert Rosado aka Tru Life was on top of the world. His public beef with Mobb Deep and his anthem, "The New New York" landed him an audition and deal with Jay-Z's Roc La Familia imprint.

Tru Life continued to stir up rap disputes with Dipset members during his time on the Roc. His authenticity may have been the double-edged sword resulting in him leaving the label, and now in 2011 facing serious jail time.

Nearly two years ago, a fight that started outside of a New York club, ended outside of a Murray Hill apartment building where Tru and his brother Marcus Rosado were involved in the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Christopher Guerrero.

A second man was severely wounded but survived. On Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford offered a plea deal that would waive the brothers' rights to appeal and give Tru 10 years behind bars and Marcus 12.

They face second-degree murder, gang assault and assault charges. The 34-year-old rapper has yet to accept the offer and if he does not, he goes to trial along with his brother on March 1st.

Should Tru accept the plea and do the time or take it to trial and possibly get more years?

Saigon, who was once behind bars, has been in support of his friend Tru Life, who is currently dealing with a slew of charges, including murder, which could land him with a life sentence. When speaking about Tru, Sai stated that the hardest part that he has had to deal with is the absence of his children.

The rapper has taken the circumstances of Tru and decided to make a difference in whatever way he can by participating in a charity event for In Arms Reach as the host for orientation for the first class which kicks off September 29 at City College in Harlem. The premise is to empower children who have parents that have been within the prison system. By employing arts and music, children will be able to acknowledge their true potential and realize that they have purpose.

The program is backed by the City College for City University of New York and the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education.

A reoccurring issue in the Black community is the lack of fathers within the family as most Black or minority men find themselves behind a cell or dead and have children that have to grow up without a father. It has also become a trend to NOT have a father in the household. Factors such as this have contributed to some young Black boys growing up with a sense of hate which translates into acting out in violence or other criminal acts.

On a more personal level, without the guidance of a male, it becomes more of an issue for a boy to deal with the opposite sex as his mother cannot teach him how to be a man and how to “handle” a female. This can easily lead to issues such as domestic abuse or “baby mama” drama. Black men in America are in need of guidance and hopefully this will be a major step towards helping the cause.

The charge revolves around stabbings on June 15 which left two casualties. Christopher Guerrero, 20, was left fatally wounded and Jason Grey, 27, is in critical condition. Rosado is being held without bail for allegedly stabbing Guerrero in the stomach and Grey in the chest.

A 1st Degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison under New York's law.

The 33-year-old rapper allegedly turned himself in last week, was taken into custody June 22 and placed at Riker's Island on charges of murder, assault and weapons possession along with his brother, Marcus, who is being held as being an accomplice to the attack.

The violent act by Rosado is allegedly an act of retaliation for the shooting of a suspected drug dealer.

Police reported that the stabbings, which occurred at 9:30 am in the lobby of a Manhattan building, were the aftermath of an altercation that had occurred earlier at Club Pasha in Hell's Kitchen.

Hip-Hop artists such as Noreaga and Saigon had voiced their prayers and belief in Rosado's innocence.

This is yet another instance in which Tru Life has been involved in violence. According to numerous reports, Tru Life and his brother confronted rapper Cam'Ron outside of Club Stereo in 2007. The confrontation went from a war of words to a threat of gun fire and ended with Tru Life allegedly punching the Dipset founder in the face.

The confrontation of Tru Life and Cam'Ron occurred during a time where Dipset had a beef brewing with Jay-Z. Tru Life and his crew also had a run in during the past with Mobb Deep and its rumored that members of the Queens Bridges duo's entourage were pistol whipped and robbed after Prodigy double sold a verse to Tru and then recorded it for the Any Given Sunday soundtrack on the song "Never Goin' Back"

Rosado, who signed under Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella imprint in 2005, has since been released of his contract.
