Who Is ASAP Rocky?

If you're not sure who ASAP Rocky is, then you might want to check out the in-depth interview with Complex where the 23-year-old Harlem repper goes in about everything from hustling to fashion to his obsession with the purple drink.

Rocky claims his parents named him after Rakim and he's flirting with the idea of naming his child Kanye when the time comes.

Heavily influenced by Houston's sound, Rocky admits he's never been there but he admires the city. "I'm quite sure Wu-Tang had never been to China before, but they were influenced [by Chinese culture] and you couldn't tell them that they weren't."

Rocky also builds on the fact that his crew all have the ASAP name in front of their own and he made sure he secured a record deal that would allow him to put out other artists on his RCA label.

When asked about his relationship with Drake, Rock states that Drizzy posted his "Purple Swag" video on his blog and reached out to him to let him know he was an influence. Rocky credits him for that and is now a part of Drake's Club Paradise Tour.

"They call him corny but it is what it is. I'd smack the s**t out of somebody for Drake."
He would also smack somebody for Mac Miller and although Rocky's no longer homophobic, he can't hang out with Brandon (Lil B) because he wears "my grandmother's earrings."

Method Man No Longer Wants To Be Tied To Weed

Method Man is taking a new stance and distancing himself from his longtime association with marijuana.

The Wu Tang clan member sat down for an interview with VIBE to discuss why he longer wants to be known for his weed rhymes.

Speaking to the mag he says his children were a large part of his decision.

"I"don't want that every time you hear Method Man's name you associate it with getting high or marijuana because there's so much more to me than that. I'm not actually distancing myself from my marijuana culture people but it's not in the forefront anymore. I got kids to raise, man. Plus it was never really that bad. It gets comes to a point where no matter where you go they're always thinking you're high. And I'm not always high. I mean right now I'm sober as a priest."

Despite his claims of wanting dissasociation, Meth is currently on The Smoker's Club Tour with Curren$y and Big K.R.I.T.

Despite that Meth still says he wants an identity outside of weed unlike Wiz Khalifa and some of his other counterparts that Meth gladly gives props to.

"Wiz is going way out there with it. I applaud that cat big time too because he's doing it his way and it's his time now. Let him ride," says Method Man. "It's always going to be there whether it's Wiz or Method Man or Redman, Big K.R.I.T. whoever. It's always just going to be there. It's recreational, baby. Do you know how many closeted weed smokers there are? They're going to be coming out of the closet like gay men. I'm serious. Then we're going to have these marches like the gay community did."

Method Man recently made headlines for appearing in a "Sour Patch Kids" candy commercial.

Things I Didn't Know A Week Ago Part 4

1.Rap Crews Are Back

The hip-hop label/crew whatever you want to call it has returned. Gone are the Roc-A-Fellas, Bad Boys and Wu-Tang but Maybach Music Group, Shady Records, Young Money and G.O.O.D Music are making the hip-hop crew a relevant force again.

Kanye's crew just has to take some lessons from MMG and actually put out an artist or two, Young Money needs to find a place for Cory Gunz and explain to me why Tyga has a record deal...but other than that, the industry is looking pretty decent.

Eminem is putting his guys out soon, Wale is dropping an album, Meek is killing and as soon as Jay-Z finds some other rappers to join the Roc Nation gang, there could be some formidable forces in the game.

2.Cole Broke The Mold

Speaking of Hov's regime, J. Cole's second week in stores proved that no radio single or gimmick is necessary when you have a strong following, consistent mixtapes and a nod from the greatest alive. Cole surprised folks moving 217,000 his first week and I think he sold just under 70K in the second week so kudos to the Sideline Story.

Hopefully the major labels change up their approach a little bit. While we're on Roc Nation signees...

3.Jay Electronica Has Mind Control Power

His ability is not just over us mere mortals who believe it's okay for him to put out a song per season or a snippet of an unfinished record, he also got Prodigy to throw his diamonds up on a chorus.

Did Prodigy forget that ten years ago he was on a Summer Jam screen and getting referred to as "Twinkle Toes?" I mean I'm down for growth and squashing beef but somehow I think Jay Elect told him what to say and he said it.

This is the same man that congratulated Game and threatened him on Twitter in the same breath. Then he posed the same threat to any rapper in the business and I'm positive it worked. Did Game apologize yet? Believe he will.

4.DMX Hates Terrence And Rocsi

Dark Man X might just dislike everyone under 30 years old including the entire 106th & Park audience, but he really wanted to call Rocsi a b**ch a few times as he answered some questions on BET's video show.

Not only did they try to force him to admit that he listens to new rappers, but Rocsi blew up the fact that his hook was originally said by Drake. DMX looked comfortable performing at the BET Hip-Hop Awards but speaking to Terrence and Rocsi, he looked like his publicist convinced him this was a good idea to get the "youth."

5.Drake Is Tough

He's not afraid of Pusha T coming at him sideways, he doesn't care about radio shows or rappers taking subliminal jabs, and his album is going to sell records and answer questions.

Drizzy went on Funk Flex's radio show and didn't rap while reading his phone, he expressed his bravado calmly suggesting (I'm paraphrasing) he saw Serena Williams naked, he's been there, done that with Rihanna, and if Jay and Wayne go at it, Aubrey may have to jump in on his "brother's" side as opposed to his mentor. Be afraid.

6.The BET Hip-Hop Cyphers Featured Some Awards

I know BET is not the best network in the world and I understand hip-hop is not in its golden era but when you have to have seven cyphers to fill in for the lack of categories, performances or overall interest in your show, maybe it's time to rethink the ceremony.

The cyphers are great for exposure when new artists like Stalley and Kendrick Lamar get national light. But others who might not need to be spitting outside of a record, don't need the exposure because they just get exposed. If you would have told me that I'd be hearing some R&B singers, a French cat flowing with subtitles and a blind guy rapping, I would tune in just for that, but how about you guys put together a real award show too?

Anyway I had some observations about the show that I decided to write down because I'm always a fan of learning things I didn't know seven days prior.

-Those Shady guys can rap, Royce introduced himself to a whole slew of new folks, Crooked I showed why he's my favorite Slaughterhouse occupant and Eminem made everyone that rapped in a cypher feel a little dumb for a few minutes.

-LL Cool J might have had the second or third best verse of the evening during his acceptance speech that he (his ghost writer) wrote on the way to the event.

-Someone (Wiz Khalifa) just has to perform shirtless every award show huh? Do the stylists include that in their fee? Tight pants, fresh kicks, hat, shades and show off your boxers?

-I'm glad Lupe got to do a song with a message. BET snuck in some realness during the fluff.

-Fifty showed the "how to take down a star" method years ago when he shouted out Vivica Fox's dress...Royce da 5'9" was watching. Good luck Royce.

-Black people show up for MTV Awards but there were a whole lot of "this person couldn't be here tonight" for BET. Makes sense though.

The RZA is the latest celebrity featured in an issue of V Magazine now that he's been nominated for their 'Heroes' issue by his good friend and collaborator Kanye West.

In the publication's fall issue, the Wu-Tang veteran reflects on his rap career as requested by Kanye who suggested him for the feature.

He tells V how he got his start working with The GZA who he met in 1976.

We were kids just doin' it. I was rapping over anything…Dr. Seuss, Mother Goose, anything[...] When I came into the biz, I wanted to f*ck up the game. I thought that other than some music from the '60s and '70s, everything was bullsh*t. Rappers had nothing to say. R&B made me carsick. I never strived for dollar, but my ego was super-duper.”

Other celebrities who gave nominations for the issue include Drew Barrymore, Steven Meisel, Marina Abramovic, Jean-Paul Goude, Christina Aguilera, James Franco, Courtney Love, Missy Elliott, Antony Hegarty, Miley Cyrus, Yoko Ono, Jerry Hall and more.

Are you a recent college graduate looking to get a foot into the industry, well let the RZA, Method, Ghostface, and all of the other Wu members help you out!

In a Craigslist posting circulating the web that went up earlier yesterday, the legendary '90s rap group is looking for someone to help them manage content on their website, blogs, Twitter feed, email blasts, YouTube, Facebook and more.

An ideal candidate would possess:

Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with diverse audiences

Interest in the music/entertainment industry

Professional demeanor

Experience with social networking (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Ning, Blogspot, etc.)

Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently

Ability to meet deadlines

NewsFeed called in and spoke with a pleasant young man who advised us to send a follow-up email to apply for the position. Once they did, they received a message that stated:

"Thank you for your interest in a Wu-Tang management internship position, we will review your information and get back to you to schedule an interview."

Although the listing has been removed, it's not too late to try and send in your resume for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

In a video that recently surfaced on the internet, rapper Method Man is recorded giving his disdain for natural hair saying,

“I don't like peezy afros, sorry, because it looks peezy,I don't like dreads either. I like a woman that gets her hair did.”

Now the Wu-Tang member is clarifying his statements.

In an interview this morning with The Bigg Tigger Morning Show, Meth downplays his earlier statement saying he and the interviewer were “joking” and says he didn't know he was being recorded.

“I didn't want to offend none of my sisters,” says Meth. “You are beautiful no matter which way you are, or how you are, I just have my preference.”

Tical also blames the media and people commenting on the video for blowing it out of proportion saying,

“If this is the new media I really don't want to be a part of it…I'm mad as hell that they even giving this freaking subject so much light. Don't people have better things to do?”

Is Meth blaming the media for his dumb statements or is the internet making this matter bigger than what it is?
