Health.com has compiled a list of the most depressing states in the country using data from federal health agencies to identify 10 states with the highest rates of depression, psychological distress and other indicators of poor mental health.

Health.com reports that a 2000 study found that while nearly 1 in 3 residents living in rural areas had “a high level” of depression symptoms, almost half had never been treated.
