Meek Mill is no longer rolling with the Roc. According to a report, the Philadelphia rapper has chosen to part ways with Roc Nation management, which has been steering his career for about a decade.
It was big news 10 years ago when Meek Mill signed on as one of Jay-Z’s managements group’s earliest clients.
However, sources tell Billboard that in 2022, Meek has decided to dip. All traces of Meek have been wiped from Roc Nation’s website, which still boasts an eclectic and A-list clientele that includes Megan Thee Stallion, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, Rihanna and Buju Banton, to name just a handful.
Throughout his time on the Roc, besides releasing some well-regarded albums, Meek also saw himself imprisoned and released and asserting himself as an activist through his work on bail reform.
Recently, though, he express having static with his record label, Atlantic Records, noting that he feels the company strained his relationship with Roddy Ricch, essentially finessing him out of a deal.
Meek took to Twitter himself to offer up some details on what exactly is going on. It seems the rapper is looking to take a more hands on approach to his career, and there is no love lost between him and the house Jay-Z built.
“All I seen today was meek and roc part ways …I’m personally handling my own business so I can take risk and grow,” tweeted Meek on Monday afternoon (July 11). “We came to that agreement together..I have a label deal with roc for my artist and I got reform super tied with them and many other investments wit jigga.”
He added, “And roc nation is my family don’t mix my post aimed at Atlantic mixed up with roc or MMG …they ain’t stop nothing I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life b4 And put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good.”
Meek also went on to say that’s he still irked at Atlantic Records, and again pointed out that he’s only allowed to drop albums every 9 months and claims that he was also removed from festivals at the label’s behest.
No word on who will be handling Meek’s management moving forward, yet. Guess he’s still going to be getting those Roc Nation Brunch invites.
