One of the four men accused of plotting to kill President Obama may be put to death. District Attorney Tom Durden announced Thursday (Aug. 30) that he will seek the death penalty for Army Pvt. Isaac Aguigui.
The men belonged to a militia group known as F.E.A.R. (Forever Enduring Always Ready), of which Aguigui is said to have been the ring leader. He and Sgt. Anthony Peden, and Pvt. Christopher Salmon, who all served at Fort Stewart Army Base, are scheduled to be arraigned today on several charges, including criminal gang activity, and felony murder for the death of 19-year-old former soldier Michael Roark, and his girlfriend Tiffany York. The fourth member of the group struck a plea deal with prosecutors to face lesser charges.
Roark was killed for allegedly betraying the group, and was lured to a wooded area where he was shot, execution style. York was shot in the head while she waited in the care.
Aguigui’s used the $500,000 insurance money paid out after the death of his pregnant wife, to purchase over $80,000 worth of weaponry to carry out their plans. He has not been named in his wife’s death, but prosecutor Isabel Pauley thinks his story is suspicious.
The assassination plot was uncovered while authorities were investigating the double murders of Roark and York, who was only 17.
