Steve Tyler doesn’t want Nicki Minaj to be mad at him, so he’s offered up an apology for his comments, which the rapper deemed racist.

“I apologize if it was taken wrong Nicki,” he said on eTalk, a Canadian entertainment show. “But I am the farthest from [being a racist]. I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist.”

“I don’t know where she got that out of me saying I’m not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan. I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would’ve been thrown off, so maybe I spoke out of turn. But a racist I am not, Nicki.”

Minaj engaged in a short-lived verbal war with Tyler after his comments about her American Idol judging abilities. “If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!” he told MTV News. “Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”

She responded by accusing him of stereotyping her because of her skin color. “I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment.”
