You may not know Lil Bibby right now, but you will in the near future. The rising rapper is currently in New York City, where he sat down with Hot 97’s morning show to discuss his Free Crack mixtape, growing up in Chicago, the significance of his name, and more.

Ebro, Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg (especially Rosenberg) focused much of their questions on the violence in his music and his hometown. “I just tell it how I see it, basically,” Bibby explained. “I don’t get no heat ’cause I don’t promote it [violence] as like it’s a good thing. I’m just saying what’s going on, you know? And people kind of respect that because I don’t glorify the sh*t.”

If anything, you’ll be able to gauge the current climate in Chi-town. One moment that sticks out like a sore thumb comes when Bibby was asked if he thought about the future. His reply: “Umm, nah I don’t. Me or nobody don’t think about the future. We just live.”

On a brighter note, the 19-year-old admitted that he raps to get out of the hood. Lil Bibby and his partner in rhyme Lil Herb are stars in the pack of up-and-comers from The Windy City. Get familiar with Lil Bibby via Free Crack, which features songs like “Water.” Hear him speak below.
