It’s tough to thrive as an MC the way today’s music industry is built, and even tougher to excel as a female rapper with something to prove. Such is the case with the ladies of Sisterhood of Hip Hop, all of whom agree that although history says otherwise, bonafide women lyricists don’t need the male cosign to gain reputable recognition.

“Absolutely not,” said Bia. “You don’t need a male backend in this industry,” added Siya. “That’s what’s going around. You got Nicki and Wayne, back then you had Biggie and Lil Kim and that whole stigma. But I don’t believe in the fact that women need that dominance behind them because I think women can stand strong and hole their own.”
