Eskeerdo is featured on Kendrick Lamar’s soon-to-be No. 1 album, To Pimp a Butterfly, but that’s not the extent of power moves being made from the Cuban MC/songwriter.

He recently dropped a self-titled EP which a small offering to earn the attention span of all potential fans.

It can be argued that the Miami Hip-Hop scene has had its street voice clouded with the more alluring side that represents tourist attractions like beaches and high-priced seafood spots. Eskeerdo already revealed to listeners the steez he was on with the true-to-life perspective slab, “For the City” and its equally telling visual. The sentiment is furthered when Eskeerdo embraces the everlasting Scarface stigma on the No I.D.-produced “Manolo” which rightfully bleeds into “Jealously,” as if to mirror the surrealism of art imitating life.

It’s the triumphant opener “Freedom” where Eskeerdo highlights on a bevy of metaphorical shackles with lyrics like, “When the demand ain’t sh*t/They say your plan ain’t sh*t/Man the man ain’t sh*t/Man, Fidel might as well run this country, this land ain’t sh*t.”

Grungy bass toppled over top of well-placed conga rhythms make up the succinct yet effective Eskeerdo EP. You can thank The Agency for that.
