Will Smith’s name is undoubtedly attached to the Men in Black film series with a granite rope but now, the Sony studios will have to find a new leading charmer.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaking power couple Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald revealed their plans to remake the alien-neutralizing space bonanza without the A-lister.
THR: You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
PARKES: We’re in the middle of it. It’s very active.
THR: Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES: Most likely no.
MACDONALD: It will be reinvented as a trilogy.
The pair also spoke on an upcoming Tom Hanks’ thriller titled The Circle and the Dreamworks slump.
As for Smith, he will be appearing in the NFL scandal-baring film Concussion this fall and viewers may still have a chance in seeing him in the Independence Day sequel.
