Police have apprehended the suspect implicated in the shooting death, of Bay Area rapper Kenneth Cherry Jr. Ammar Harris, 26, surrendered to authorities  in Los Angeles, Thursday ( Feb. 28).

According to Capt. Chris Jones, a team comprised of police and federal agents, who nabbed him in North Hollywood, at a home at around noon.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Ammar Harris, 26, surrendered at an apartment in the North Hollywood section of Los Angeles after it was surrounded by members of a joint Los Angeles police and FBI task force, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lieutenant Ray Steiber said.

“Officers and detectives converged on that area, he was challenged to come out of that area and he did peacefully,” Steiber told a news conference. “He was taken into custody.”

Police accuse Harris of opening fire in the pre-dawn hours of February 21 from a black Range Rover on the Maserati being driven by 27-year-old Kenneth Wayne Cherry Jr. in an intersection at the heart of the Strip, near several casino resort hotels.

Cherry, who performed under the name “Kenny Clutch,” was fatally wounded and his sports car veered out of control, colliding with a taxicab. The cab exploded into flames, killing driver Michael Bolden, 62, and his passenger Sandi Sutton-Wasmund, 48.

Harris, a self-professed pimp, was booked into a Los Angeles County jail and is being  held without bail, and will be extradited to Las Vegas Monday. “Mr. Harris was a fleeing felon,”  said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lieutenant Ray Steiber. “He left Las Vegas shortly after this event occurred. He did leave Las Vegas pretty rapidly.”

Police believed that Harris was with companion, Lineesha Lashun Howard, at the time of the shooting. Police mistakenly released a photo of another one of Harris’ female friends, Tasha Malek, who starred on a season of Bad Girl Club, and has since come out to make it clear that she had no ties to him at the time of the shooting.

Cherry Jr., 27, was killed by way of shots fired by Harris who was driving a black Range Rover and pursuing him after an argument at the Aria Hotel. During the incident, the Oakland, Calif. native hit a taxi, which exploded killing two other people.
