Summer 2013 hasn’t felt quite the same without customary mood-setting tunes from Dom Kennedy. The west coast rapper must have seen the flood of new music inquiries from his fans, because he liberated a new track titled “Erica Part 1” last night for our listening pleasure.

This is what folks have been waiting for.

Dom keeps it consistent with a playeristic verse over crisp production courtesy of Lordquest that has a clear southern California influence. The only downside is the song’s length, which clocks in at just under two minutes.

Since 2012, he’s been promoting his long-awaited effort, Get Home Safely, but nothing has materialized. Besides “Erica Part 1,” Dom’s sightings have been minimal this year. The Lemeirt Park rep released two songs called “Nothin’ Like Me” and “Never,” and contributed a verse on Wale’s “Hella.”

Here’s to hoping that Get Home Safely drops sooner than later. Until then, listen to “Erica Part 1” below.
