Three Florida elementary school students are being charged as juveniles after police say they confined an 11-year-old autistic girl to a bathroom and forced her to perform sexual acts.
The three male students attend Norland Elementary School in Miami Gardens.
Police say an 11-year-old boy forced the girl to her knees and made her perform oral sex while two boys, aged 13 and 11 acted as lookouts outside the restroom.
Police also report that when the girl tried to escape, the two lookouts “attempted to defeat the victim’s attempt to escape the locked bathroom by grabbing and pushing her with the purpose of keeping her confined.”
The girl suffers from Aspergers’s syndrome, a mild form of autism.
Speaking with KFOR, the victim’s mother says that she doesn’t understand the mentality of the accused and that her daughter is“very aware” of what happened to her.
“I don’t understand how an eleven-year-old would think like that,” the victim’s mother said. She continued saying her daughter was “very aware of what happened to her.”
She also adds that she thought her child would be safe at school.
“Two places your children should be safe: home and school. That should be a safe haven for them.”
The boys have not been taken into police custody.
