D’Angelo recalled becoming enamored with Prince’s music after being exposed to his 1979 song “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” So much so that he took it a step further. “[My brothers] told me, ‘He plays everything, he writes everything, he’s singing everything’, so I was hooked from then on. I learned how to play every song on that album, note for note, at five years old.” Bruh.
