Beck’s surprisingly surreal companion piece to his 2002 album Sea Change does warrant Album Of The Year distinction, but will be overlooked. Pharrell Williams’ latest attempt at solo exploration charted him a slew of hits and made millions happy, but won’t earn the Grammy award. The competition between Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran will be the focal point with voters, as the two dominated the airwaves using a cast of new (Mustafa Ofer) and old (Rick Rubin) alike. Does rewriting how audiophiles receive new music from their favorite stars earn, Beyoncé, Album Of The Year honors? We doubt that the voting board will be that charitable. So, for our pick for the 2015 celebrations of music, we’re calling Sam Smith the Golden Guy of the Grammys.
