While tonight’s (June 7) Hot 97’s Summer Jam was going down inside Met Life Stadium in New Jersey, state troopers were firing tear gas on the crowd outside. Allegedly, fans angry that the gates to the stadium closed had thrown bottles at the authorities.

Reports the Asbury Park Press:

Concert fans threw bottles at State Police officers on a phalanx defense positions outside the MetLife gate at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Sunday evening.

The concert goers were upset when the gates to the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert were closed.

The trooper retreated behind the stadium gates after a barrage crashed around them.

Alarm signals went off at the crowd looked on and tension rose.

A state police armored vehicle tear-gassed the crowd. A second round of tear gas was later fired into the crowd.

Uniformed officers with shields, helmets and gas masks briefly came out of the gated area, arrested a concertgoer, then retreated behind the gate.
